All the talk about Sanchez and Alexander declaring for the draft got me wondering about our defensive recruiting. I really like what has been going on in recruiting recently but I look at other programs across the country....particularly in the SEC and ACC...you see big physical guys playing. Heavy hitters who physically come at you. How many times have you seen guys simply come lay the wood when we play one of those teams?
I know we play way more passing teams than other leagues do.....but I would love to have physical guys who really lay it on some of the leagues receivers a few times a game. You know....the type that make you blow snot bubbles and every time you cross the field you wonder if someone is going to lay you out.
We are going after high caliber athletes.....but we don't really seem to recruit the really physical guys. Alexander is an example. Good athlete, rangy but how many times did you see him hit someone and simply stop them in their tracks the last couple of years? I'm not knocking him at all as a player.....I'd just like to see some guys like Boz, Calmus, etc who would really come after you and HIT playing defense. Yes, I realize those guys don't grow on trees but I'd still like to see us hunting fort those type of guys.
