NORMAN — Former Sooner quarterback Austin Kendall will return to Norman this weekend as an opponent when Oklahoma hosts West Virginia.
Kendall knows OU's offense, and he knows how the offensive line operates.
But Bill Bedenbaugh, OU's longtime offensive line coach, was stumped when asked if Kendall's familiarity with the scheme will affect calls or signals.
"That's a good question," Bedenbaugh said Tuesday. "I haven't thought about it one bit."
Kendall is questionable to play Saturday after suffering a chest injury last weekend against Iowa State. Kendall has started all six games for the Mountaineers, leading them to a 3-3 record.
The Waxhaw, North Carolina native spent the first three years of his career at OU. He played in six games for the Sooners last season, completing 12 of 17 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown.
He transferred to West Virginia in January.
"Me and Austin are really good friends," OU center Creed Humphrey said. "It’s good to see him have success so far this season. I’ll be excited to see him play."
Humphrey said he and Kendall haven't talked much leading up to the game.
OU middle linebacker Kenneth Murray was asked about potentially tackling his former teammate.
"It won't be interesting at all," Murray said. "It's just the next quarterback."
