When I first heard about the backloaded big 12 schedules, it seemed like a good idea. However, in reality it has created great media, but not great results. What I mean is that each week the teams are getting beaten with no time to rehabilitate themselves in the eyes of the committee.
If TCU had lost to OSU five weeks ago and then won their next five, they would be ranked much higher than they are now. If Baylor had lost to Oklahoma three weeks ago and then won two in a row, they would be climbing, not dropping. Now OSU and Baylor play, OU and TCU play - with no time to climb back up the rankings. This hurts an OU team that keeps winning because Oklahoma could win it's last three games against three top 10 teams and by the time the final ranking come out, none of those teams will be in the top 10 simply by way of beating each other for three weeks in a row.
Compare that with the Oklahoma loss and you see that it helps to lose early not late. The backloaded schedule means that everyone loses late (except maybe one team) and it diminishes the wins because the teams that lost can't climb back up. This hurts OU in the eyes of the committee because each time they beat someone, that team drops with no time to climb back up.
