UPDATE 3:21 pm SAT: Going to have a full write-up on the commitment, but wanted to pass along a quote straight from the horse's mouth on when Grandstaff will be able to play for Oklahoma, since there has been some concern on the issue. Austin told me that he plans on enrolling immediately for the Spring semester and said, "I'll be eligible around this time next year."

UPDATE 11:44 am SAT: I've spoken with Austin and he confirmed with me that he as indeed committed to Oklahoma.

UPDATE 11:41 am SAT: Per reports, Austin Gradnstaff has committed to Oklahoma. Working to confirm with Grandstaff himself but ko reason to think its not accurate.

I had mentioned earlier this week that Scoop would have more on transferring Ohio State shooting guard Austin Grandstaff and his visit to Oklahoma this weekend.
A little background on Grandstaff - he was the No. 44 overall player in Rivals class of 2015 out of Rockwall, Texas. As a senior, he averaged 29.0 points per game as one of Texas' top scorers. He has great size for a two at 6'5", which allows him to create shots off the dribble - as well as be an incredibly dangerous guy to leave open for catch-and-shoot opportunities.
He played in the Buckeyes' first 10 games as a true freshman, averaging 4.4 points per game, before deciding to transfer. Even though the decision was based on how a perceived wrong fit, Grandstaff left Ohio State amicably, still holding great relationships with teammates and coaches. This is not a kid who will be a problem in the locker room or anything like that.
Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan and Oregon were the five finalists during Grandstaff's recruitment out of high school, with many believing the Sooners to be the runner-up.
When I asked Austin about how close OU was to earning his commitment he definitively replied, "They were up there no doubt."
One reason Grandstaff is so fond of Oklahoma is his relationship and ultimate respect for head coach Lon Kruger and the former Rockwall star has taken notice of the new heights the program is currently enjoying:
"(Kruger's) doing an unbelievable job and has changed the culture of OU basketball," Grandstaff proclaimed.
It's clear the school that was near the top of his list out of high school, with a coaching staff he knows well, that isn't too far from home, and is now one of the top-ranked teams in the country has re-captured Grandstaff's interest.
Basketball is not the only reason for the allure of OU - there is a family connection in play as well.
"Granddad played baseball there and a lot of family members are fans."
Grandstaff will be flying in to OKC tonight to visit for the weekend and take in the Kansas State game tomorrow at the Lloyd Noble Center.
Scoop will have more after the visit, but wanted to get you all caught up on where things stand as of now.
