why Kyler won his Heisman. Two of the last 3 games, Tua was benched.

if you're saying Saban quit then i agree. But if Saban was still trying to win then i would disagree.Yes when the game was all but over. I would definitely not call that getting benched.

When you are down 44 - 16 then quitting is not really a choice. They were beaten and he knew it
When a starting athlete's team is losing by what seems an insurmountable lead, and said athlete is replaced by a backup, it is indeed a benching. An athlete can be benched with the hopes their team completes a comeback and wins -OR - an athlete can be benched because their team has no hope of coming back and said player sucked that game (i.e. Tua went to the bench and was replaced by Hurts). Because the Coach failed to make the move early enough in the game or said team never had a shot does not change the definition. I get you have a contrarian nature, but this appears to be a stretch.

So you really think Saban replaced Tua in the 4th quarter because he thought Hurts could do better? Provide a spark? lol He put Hurts in the game because it was all but over and he felt Hurts deserved a chance to play in the game. If Tua was really going to get benched, with hopes of coming back, Saban would have done it much, much earlier.
I don't really care about reason(s) Saban benched his starting quarterback; it was simply my attempt to clearly explain how it was a quarterback being benched. You know, because you wrote that the qb was not benched...
Benched. Why would Saban not try it? Worked last year vs Georgia, Hurts benched and Tua led them to victory. In the SECCG Hurts came in to replace an injured Tua and Hurts led them to victory. It has worked twice, well once but Hurts coming in for the injured Tua vs Georgia had the same results.
Saban knew Tua was not going to lead his team back so in comes Hurts to try and spark his team. Only thing is he probably should have done it sooner but I don't think it would have mattered.
Entirely different situation last year against Georgia. They were in the game and could win it. This year they were 28 points down in the 4th quarter. You don't wait til the 4th quarter and down 28 to bench a QB. I also believe, if I remember correctly, that they were looking at tua's hand like he had injured it. Whatever the case, I watched the game. Every second of it...and Tua was not benched. Did he finish the game? No...but that does not constitute a benching obviously.
Thats what I said, Hurts came in for an injured Tua vs Georgia, same result as last years NC game tho, different reasons but same results. I think Saban thought thought there might be some magic left in the bag. You go down fighting right? I don't know Saban personally but I bet he thinks that way.
Has Saban said anything about benching Tua in favor of Hurts? If Saban did indeed bench Tua last night then he isn't nearly as good of a coach as I thought he was. He waited until they were down 28 in the 4th before going with another qb lol
Also, Tua had a defense he could rely on to hold down opposition scoring.I got into a debate with some posters on the Texas board a couple of weeks ago because one posted that Tua was better than Murray and the head to head game proved it. To which I replied, to accurately compare the two you'd have to look at how they fared against closely ranked opponents. OU has around the 100th ranked passing defense. I said to compare Tua vs. Georgia to Murray vs. Bama. Tua sure as hell didn't look good and threw a few pics. Murray at least put up a damn good fight and his stats were more than sufficient to win the game.
