Kyler was timed in the 40 this winter at a 4.38
When he played on the OU baseball team this spring when he was on base, the announcers in the texas game said Kyler was the fastest guy in college baseball.

Watch his video He was 42-0 at Allen Texas highschool with three state championships

Excellent article Bull. I live in Dallas and don't think to go to DMN much anymore.

4.38 was the time Murray said he ran in practice. I don't believe it was an official time

A few years ago, RB Daniel Brooks and WR Micah Quick were said to be the fastest players on the team....so Murray's 40 time I'm taking with a grain of salt.
While I'm liking Murray's speed, what I really want from him are great skills at quarterbacking (reading defenses, passing, composure, etc.), since he is, right now, the odds on favorite to be OU's starting QB in 2018.
I'm also impressed with his 42-0 record as a starter in high school.

Back in Barry's day, what a wishbone quarterback he would've been.

Don't scoff at that one. Brooks was absolutely the fastest on the team - he was a state champion in like three different track and field events in high school and even ran some for OU track. The guy just couldn't stay healthy enough to translate it to the field.

Brooks had injuries that held him back for sure....and the depth at running back didn't help his cause either.
My point in bringing him and Micah Quick up was that injuries or just not being better than the competition at a certain position can make speed irrelevant.

Daniel Brooks just wasn't good enough to start at OU. Neither was Quick....at least as a WR.

Speed can be an asset for an elite athlete that has the IT factor, but not so much for a guy that lacks whatever it takes to be productive on the field when it counts. I'm sure we have all seen really fast guys come and go without ever living up to their expectations. Maybe I should say "the fan's expectations". In Brooks case it could be that he was injured a lot, but maybe it has been something more. The coaches are probably the only ones except for Brooks that will ever know.

I think sometimes it's just the lack of opportunities and the need for a little luck.
Oklahoma averaged 75 plays last year. We were probably about 50/50 run/pass.
So you've got 5 RBs doing maybe 35 plays and 15 WRs doing 40 plays.
RBs always seem to be known from practice. The second teamers rarely get opportunities, maybe 1 or 2 runs at the end of a game. Even first team runners are stuffed about 50% of the time. So that means if you get 1 or 2 chances, you have a very high likelihood that you're gonna get stuffed and look inadequate.
WR is more up-for-grabs but they really only test maybe 8 of those guys. 2-3 of them are getting the lion's share or maybe 30 plays (20 receptions on 30 tries). That leaves 10 plays for the other 5-6 guys or 1-2 passes each.
That means at WR, you've got 1 or 2 chances to state your case. Bad throw, bad play, smart DB with lucky position, and there go your chances. Sit your ass on the bench.

I saw enough of Quick at WR to know he was average. Too many dropped balls and dancing around. He looked to maybe have a promising career at DB until he got hurt. Brooks might have been decent, but he wasn't nearly in the same category as Mixon or Perine. He probably would have started at some schools..just not OU.

Kyler Murray was an amazing 42-0 in his high school career at a big time program Allen, Texas
He won the Gatoraid trophy as the nation's #1 national high school player of the year.

His speed is for real as is his talent at QB.

Right now we don't know too much about Murray other than he is undersized but a really good athlete. Could he be a great qb? Maybe but right now we just don't know

My Aggie relatives and friends were not upset over Murray leaving TAMU.
Kyler's father evidently thought Sumlin and his staff were not doing enough to put Kyler into the starting QB position....even pushing Sumlin to hire a new offensive coordinator.
The perception of Murray in Aggieland was that he's owned and operated by his father and has a sense of entitlement that's over the top.
How much of this is true is anyone's guess. But if it's true, it will be interesting to see how Riley and his coaches handle Murray.....and his father.

Bull, my post was about Brooks. I'm all in on Murray becoming a great Sooner, but I just haven't seen him play great in a game that counts. I hope he does, but I remember the same things that are being said about Murray were touted about Eric Mitchell. Mitchell was a big disappointment even though he had a great high school career at Pine Bluff, was very fast, big and extremely talented. I not saying that Murray will end up like Mitchell, but it will not completely surprise me that he ends up like Dewell Brewer, which wouldn't be a really bad thing for OU. Brewer was a stud.

Never been a fan on basing a players potential on speed alone. Murray may be the fastest guy on the team, but outside of that it doesn't' mean much.

Looking at what Murray did at A&M, I don't see him bringing anything to the field that Baker isn't able to do better already.

So all the talk is of Murray while Austin Kendall is ignored.
Kendall's time at OU may not be remembered and he strikes me as a possible transfer candidate after this season depending on how Murray and Robison (who will redshirt) develop.....but I saw some good things from him on a few occasions.

I was the stringer for the Scoop on National Signing Day and covered Daniel Brooks. His dad and I believe uncle went to Baylor. His dad was huge. Built completely different than Daniel. If you recall, there was a lot of discussion of Brooks flipping his commitment to Baylor. But when I spoke w/ him, he told me he was always 100% OU once he committed. Anyway, I was hoping he would do well and get lots of playing time. But that never happened as of yet. That RB depth at OU is for real.

The Aggie fans were upset because they were losing their top 2 QBs at the same time..

The story I heard back then were the two top Aggie QBs both Kyler Murray and the 5 star Kyle Allen both wanted to transfer out from A&M after the 2015 season.
.
What I heard was both wanted to transfer to OU & Bob Stoops picked Kyler over Allen.
Allen by the way as I remember it, was Mark Andrew's QB in an Arizona high school
and Allen was regarded by many as the nation's best passer in high school
I cannot remember what school Allen picked to transfer to from A&M

I read a current rumor on Kyle Allen. He transferred to Houston from A&M.
He may now follow the former Houston head coach to Texas where he would have 2 yrs of eligibility left.

You're basing this on what? What is your source of this "rumor"? Herman was hired at Texas in November 2016. Kyle Allen transferred to Houston nearly 2 months later in January 2017. Allen isn't following Herman or he wouldn't have transferred to Houston in the first place.

I heard the same thing as Bull. Allen, Murray & Will Grier were all available. Grier was the starter at Florida until he was suspended by the NCAA for a drug issue. All 3 wanted to come to OU but OU chose Murray which surprised a lot of people because of the high school relationship of Andrews and Allen. Grier will be the starter at WV this year, Allen transferred to Houston in January 2016 and redshirted last year just like Murray. Allen will start at Houston this year. When Herman was hired at Texas there were rumors of Allen following Herman to Texas but it didn't happen.

Ahh you are correct. My bad on my last post. It was 2016 that Allen transferred. For some reason I was thinking it was 2017. After reading your post I looked it up.:D

If it's true that OU had their choice, Lincoln Riley must have liked Murray better or was more familar with him. At the time most seem to think that Allen was coming to OU. Allen was the #1 rated QB coming out of high school in 2014 and he was Mark Andrews QB in high school in Arizona. Murray having 3 years eligibility and Allen only 2 years could have played into the decision.
