just might be the best Head Coach in college football. No conservative mindset in him. He goes for the jugular with each possession. It is the team's expectation, not hope, to score a TD with every possession. An offensive genius for sure.

He employs a system whereby 2-3 star talent can flourish. Throw a couple of 4 stars in there and it's volcanic. His recruits are getting better each year too. His team will bury Texas.

If he had OU's talent from top to bottom, he would win conference and national championships. There is no one his equal, in my opinion, at the college level.

It'd be nice if we could pry him away from BU. But with each passing year, he is building his legacy there. The greatest coach in there school history.

Coach Patterson is a distant second. A defensive guru.

He's as dirty as sin and, like the urbanite and has sold his soul also.

I wonder how many of us would secretly accept Briles as HC if he would without any doubt win 2 national championships within 10 years at the very least. And not get OU into any trouble with the NCAA but may shed a dark light on the program. Be honest. Oh, you can't be...,it's a secret deal.

The NCAA already keeps a jaundiced eye on OU.
Therefore, we really don't want to go down that road.
Sure, maybe you do have some success'...but is it worth it if it has a taint about it?

I just don't want to go through anymore wild west shows like we had in '88 and '89. The loss of scholarships, national ridicule.

That sucked way worse than being mediocre, and it wasn't even close.

You missed the point, fitty. I said if he didn't get OU in trouble but may shed some dark light on OU.,.to be clear without any penalty.

Oh yeah bring it.
Not gonna happen, but sure.

I just think it's a far more achievable fantasy for Bob to recruit all the Jimmys and Joes he needs to be more relevant again.
They're out there, just got to win them over to our side.

The wholesale and frequent coaching changes doesn't enhance that prospect either.

Oklabama, if Art Briles were OUs coach right now, and even with everything that has happened with Briles program would happen at OU, I'm willing to bet 100% of the posters who bash away on Briles and Baylor would welcome Briles to OU with open arms. They can play the PC card all they want on here while Briles is down in Baylor. But they are full of crap if they won't admit they would LOVE having Briles at OU.

So fitty NO and Billy YES. Yeah, Billy I hear you. And good for you fitty if you're not one of those Billy is talking about. I'm undecided so neither of you guys have disappointed me. Winning without any penalties sounds awfully nice but I don't know if I could stand Briles. Billy Tubbs brought the best BB to OU IMO but I couldn't stand his demeanor. But I loved his achievements.

Trust me...if Briles were the coach at OU right now, posters on this site would be finding some way of defending the things that have happened under Brile's watch and celebrate every single win.

I joke with my brothers and friends that Fisher and Meyer are ranked #1 and #2 in the scumbag coaches poll. I voted Briles in at #3 a couple of months ago. I can't even watch a Fisher interview. He disgusts me.

What about Saban? Would you want him if available?

To me, Briles, with all his character issues, is more desirable than Saban and also a better coach.

If Mayfield played for Briles, he would be a shoo-in for the Heisman.

If Briles were to come to OU, he would have to face big time out-of-conference opponents, unlike the dwarfs Baylor plays now. No more Lamar, SMU, Rice, Sam Houston State, Buffalo, Stephen F. Austin, Wofford and Northwestern State.
Let's be clear: all D-1 teams schedule dwarfs to some degree, but Baylor schedules virtually all of its OCC schedule against poor competition. Look at Baylor's non-conference schedule over the years. It's a joke.
When did Baylor ever schedule USC, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Alabama, Ohio State, UCLA, Florida State, Miami, LSU, Stanford, Michigan, Nebraska and others during the regular season ? These teams listed are teams that OU has either played or that OU is scheduled to play.
Briles and Baylor can continue conducting their dwarf throwing jamborees, but Briles really needs to upgrade his OOC schedule before he gets my endorsement. Briles is also reaping the benefits of the decline in recent years of OU and Texas, along with the exits of Nebraska, Missouri and Texas A & M. the same can be said of TCU.
Not to worry....Baylor's future schedules through 2024 include epic match ups with Lamar, SMU, Duke, Rice, Northwestern State, UTSA, Liberty, La. Tech, Abilene Christian, Texas State and Incarnate Word. Utah has a home and home with Baylor in 2023-24....so maybe I am being unfair.
Baylor has a great team and will likely destroy OU this year as it has in recent years. But OU is no longer the OU of the past and Baylor's lofty record may reveal a soft underbelly when it goes bowling against another great team....as it did in 2013 and 2014.

CT, nice post. Especially the reminder that Baylor with all it has accomplished in the Big 12 recently hasn't performed particularly well during bowl season when expected. So from that point, OU and Baylor are similar.

Briles has had a few issues but what coach hasn't. Bob Stoops has had a few, the latest DGB. Wondering if Briles hate does not stem from his success.

Yeh, bring him on. Imo, Stoops will never win another big XII championship. He's lost the edge/want to.

4623 you do realize stoops has brought vin several questionable guys as well right? I mean you know this right? Glass houses my friend

i don't think he's lost his want to. recruiting around the #15 spot and that's about where we are.

It's not that he brought the guy in, it's how they handled him after the rape charge and his claim of ignorance. I believe he knew a lot more than he claims he did.

It's true CT that Baylor plays an incredibly soft OOC schedule each year. But, Briles is building his legacy and Baylor's culture and future. He was doing this when he wasn't getting top recruits or a large number of good recruits. Even being out-recruited in the conference, he was mowing down conference competition and that hasn't stopped even with an abundance of 3-star players.

His players, though good enough for the Big XII, it wasn't against better talent in the elite bowl games. But, he is recruiting better talent as a by-product of his winning and in time, Baylor will become more dominant.

He isn't the most ethical coach in the business, in my opinion, but he is a cutthroat winner and his players play with a passion. Cutthroat is not a term you'll hear attributed to Stoops. And, therein might be the problem with Bob's game day approach.

Maybe OU is not the OU of the past because neither is Baylor the Baylor of the past. Briles plays every, every opponent to not only win but, to win large. His message is what the Bear players have clearly bought into.
