Me either but he is ours now, hope he can turn it around.not overly excited about this hire
Mateer had a great year this year. He is used to the offense already and has experience. If that happens it will be sad to see those 2 walk but John mateer will ball out.Word has it he is bringing the WSU QB Mateer with him. If so JA or Hawkins or both are likely gone.
Is there any information on how many of the current receiving Corp will file a Medical Redshirt and stay? I would assume Burks is headed for the NFL, but if everyone else stays, we are set at WR.If Arbuckle brings his QB John Mateer with him, that will be huge.
Right now I’m expecting Arnold to leave if Mateer comes to OU.
But if I were Mateer I would see what OU plans to do in building the offensive line and getting a WR corps up and running again.

The better question is how many will actually be healthy enough to play next year.Thats what we all thought and said at the beginning of this year
honestly, we cannot get much worse than we have been this year. so, any hire would be an improvement.
Personally I hate excuses and injuries are a part of the game. If your a coach worth your salt, you find ways around it to at least have an offense that actually find ways to score points. There will be some big improvement with the offense output next year.
With that being said, does anyone really think that Arbuckle would have done significantly better this year at OU without the top five wide receivers, multiple offensive line starters out and Jackson Arnold at quarterback? I mean, how much blood can you drain out of a turnip?
If your team doesnt have the depth to overcome injuries then who’s fault is that?
LV, you’re absolutely right in my opinion. All teams have injuries, and you are correct, depth is important. But when an entire position group gets wiped out by injuries and you have to move a DB to receiver, that's unprecedented. When Brenen Thompson left the game against Alabama, OU was down to it's 7th option at receiver. How many teams in the country do you know that are 7-deep at wide receiver?
Good points 81.I already like this guy, his first offer as a Sooner coach is to a qb that is committed to Ok St. Sorry lil brother. he's a 3-star kid but his tape is really good. Also I would to see Arnold stay, he is obviously very talented to be named Gatorade Player of the Year and win the Elite 11. Arbuckle has done good things with far less talent at the QB position, lets what he can do to a 5-star kid, maybe its just what Arnold needs someone who has played the position coaching him on what he needs to do. 90% of playing QB is mental, Arbuckle gets JA mind right who knows what might happen.
Not to mention that the Fr receivers that we have were recrutied by Lebby, for his offense. Lebby has tall guys on the outside and fast guys in the slot. Lebby was all about the 50/50 ball to the outside Wr they usually are not great route runners, they can block and win the 50/50 balls. That was not part of the offense this season. All teams have injuries, and you are correct, depth is important. If your team doesnt have the depth to overcome injuries then who’s fault is that? I love your optimism but you also need to quit laying all the blame on the injuries.
Really interesting interview - guy is mellow but intelligent (sounds like he was on track to be a CFO type). Is quite close to Mateer so hopefully that materializes (even still close to Cam Ward who face-timed him on his bday from Miami). And that's the most impressive thing this young guy has done to date - Wazzu was gutted by being left out of the Big10 and lost Ward, etc. leaving the program, so there should have been a huge drop off from being competitive in the last year of the real Pac-12 to this year...but he's had a good year with good wins (vs. in-state rival UW and TTech). Meanwhile we lose a lot of people to injury and crater. At least Arbuckle has thrived in the face of adversity.
Exactly! Not a lot of 4- and 5-Star receivers sitting at spots 7-10 on the depth chart. All teams have injuries, and you are correct, depth is important. I agree to a point, but where was the development? We were told Thompson was one of the faster guys on the team. He disappeared for entire games and played regularly up until the 3rd qtr against Bama? JJ Hester had one or two notable plays this season? I know there is plenty of blame to go around but we did not see improvements at really any position that was getting a ton of reps.Exactly! Thompson was injured in the second quarter of the Alabama game.I agree to a point, but where was the development? We were told Thompson was one of the faster guys on the team. I stand corrected, regardless my point still has merit.Thompson was injured in the second quarter of the Alabama game.
