Personally, I go back and forth on preference. During the wishbone days the turf and the high crown were ideal. At the end, watching the worn out rug and Cale Gundy's head bounce off it like he was landing on cement made everyone realize something had to be done. At the time, going back to real grass was nice. I still like it, but have to admit that by the end of the season OU's grass really doesn't look very good. Perhaps the answer is to find a different type of grass better suited to Oklahoma's climate. Or... perhaps going back to an artificial turf field would be the better option? They've come a long way from the old days with the fake stuff; there are many types of turf that are softer and almost appear to be like the real thing.
The south end zone will be ready to go for next season. The stadium itself should look fantastic. A beautiful field that really pops would only make the upgrades more appealing.
