Am I reading this correct???

Actually it should be 23 assists. One was called a shot that was bounced off the
backboard. You could tell he was less than 5' from the board and he was obviously
setting up a trailer for a dunk. Looking more and more like a one and done, which
I hate but the kid is that good. Best freshman PG i've ever seen.

Unfortunately, Lon took him out with 4 or 5 minutes left in the game or he would've easily beaten the record, not tied. Also, I seriously doubt he'll be back next season, he is THAT GOOD.

Personally, I don't think a player should be able to turn pro unless they're a Junior. What good does it do the sport of college basketball to have people leave after their Freshman year?

A player should be allowed to turn pro anytime they can sign a contract equal to the average lifetime earnings of a college graduate.
Agree with this. The rule implemented that a player must be one year removed from their High School graduation, did more harm than good. Stud players sign with a basketball factory (UK, KU, etc), then take the minimum hours required and only do enough work to pass the classes so they will be eligible for the 2nd semester. Then, they stop going to classes, because BB season will be over before it matters.
It is a sham and the "system" is being worked. Let the Lebrons and Kobes sign as soon as any team is willing to sign them and let College Basketball be played with the rest of the players. Continuity makes for a much better game and experience at the college level.

Edit: Anybody (including yours truly) can coach a Kobe Bryant. Guys like Lon Kruger are the ones who can take a group of pretty good BB players and make them a very good team.

That was the play that was reviewed and credited as an assist. Without the backboard pass, he would have had 21.

My bad, thought they missed it. But for real the kid doesn't play the game like
he's 18 or 19 years old. On the court he resembles a 5 year pro veteran. Jeez
it would be nice if he'd stick around for a couple of more years. But it ain't likely.

Retired coach here. Respectfully disagree that anybody including you can coach a Koby Bryant. If that is true then anybody can coach a Trae Young. I am a big Lon Kruger fan but isn’t it amazing how much better he has become as a coach since the arrival of Young. Talent still has to coached, developed, and blended into a team system. And no, not just anybody can do that. Phil Jackson did a great job of coaching Kobe when he was with the Lakers. Lon Kruger has done a great job of coaching Trae Young. Sometimes it is harder to coach the great talents in terms of how to best utilize them within a team system. Just my opinion.

I've made this argument many times. Just doesn't do college basketball justice.

Listen to Seth Greenberg's comments about Lon Kruger starting at about 2:18.

The one and done rule is absurd. Either let kids declare and enter the NBA draft out of high school, or just do what football does and make them commit to 3 years at college. Personally, I say let them declare straight out of high school.

Making a kid go to college for one season is not only wasting that kids time, but it is taking up a scholarship that could have been used on a kid that would have gotten the full 4-5 years benefit out of it.
