It's been all over the media but I've always admired the guy--more for what he's done off the field than what he's done as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Yesterday, he had the guts to tell his teammates that he wasn't going to "go along to get along" and did what he thought was right. For everyone who wants to tell me how courageous Kaepernick is, I say screw that. If you want a real hero, and a guy who has truly put his money where his mouth is, you need to look no further than Ali Villanueva.

I also say to the pampered, prima donna millionaires that are so prevalent in today's NFL--your sport is dead to me.

Tons of respect to that guy for going out there and showing his patriotism and pride in his flag, anthem, and country. I'm sure he did what he did since he has a much different perspective than the rest of his team. How many of his teammates do you think served in the military and did time in Afghanistan?? How many of his teammates do you think know what REAL sacrifice is?? No doubt he has been alongside his fellow brothers over in Afghanistan risking their lives. You think he is going to throw that away to get alongside a bump of whine-bag NFL players who are crying about oppression while they are raking in millions playing football?? His teammates should take notes and learn something from Villanueva and what the flag and anthem mean to people in this country that actually have made a sacrifice to protect the freedoms we all enjoy.

Those who make peaceful protest impossible will make violent protest inevitable.
The older I get, the less I see of people respecting each other and the more divided they have become....and the more they are exploited and provoked to do so.
Trump is accelerating this with great zeal.
Hillary and Trump ran for president in 2016. Is this the best we can do ?

What I don't understand is why these players need to disrespect the flag, national anthem, and nation in general, because several police officers were cleared in shootings that were investigated by US attorneys, FBI, state police, state AGs, local DAs, local departments' Internal Affairs, federal and state grand juries, and in some cases, trials in district courts. Would somebody PLEASE provide evidence as to how even one of those investigations was flawed, or somehow unjust? No one seems to be able to do that after two years no matter how many times I ask. For Kaepernick's claims of "injustice" to have any merit, there would have to be collusion among as many as ten separate investigative bodies, comprised of people of many different races, religions, backgrounds, etc.

Also, you have owners making billions and players making millions, due in no small part to a specific anti-trust exemption granted to them by the flag against which they are protesting, and playing in billion dollar stadiums largely paid for by the nation, states, and municipalities which they accuse of being inequitable and oppressive. Calling these players SOBs is probably being too nice.

I applaud Villanueva for exercising his rights which apparently irked Tomlin and some of the Steelers, who were exercising their rights. This is what appalls me though. If you want to protest go right ahead, but not on my dime. While I appreciate the message that they are expounding, "equality", do it on your own dime. I watch football as an escape from the daily grind and to lock out the continual dribble from the left and right. Football and other sports helps in relieving the stress from this constant barrage. Now you want to interject politics into one of my favorite past times. Well, go ahead, now my past time will be filled doing other things and not watching the NFL. And I really don't care if you kneel before the anthem and stand during the anthem the politics is still there when you knelt. I stopped watching MLB years ago after the last time they went on strike and I haven't watched a game since. Not watching the NFL will not cause me any pain.

Jerry Jones must have felt like a fool kneeling before the game. This honestly is the dumbest thing I've seen in a while. Its turned into nothing more than the NFL against the President. It doesn't accomplish a darn thing

Jerry Jones and his Cowboys led the Nation last night on how to get past this shit. What the hell did you expect when Trump called them Son of Bitches? Did you not think that a TEAM would not unite? What if Obama called organizations or others Son of a Bitch? I could only imagine the hostility that would ensue. From me included. I consider myself a deplorable and a Trump supporter, but he stepped in it deep on Friday night. His message could have been delivered in a much better way. He forced a reaction and he got one. There is a lot wrong with this situation. But by God, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys did not rebel and/or protest during the anthem. For this I'm happy. For when ir if they do, I'm gone from the NFL

There are far, far more great players in the NFL than there are the dipshits that feel oppressed. Unfortunately, the dips hits get the press. What the Cowboys did last night was to take a knee for 15 seconds. What I saw was heads bowed in prayer. They then stood at attention to honor the flag and the National Anthem. Going forward, I hope the NFL & players do the same.

These same NFL Owners that used their own league doctors to skew facts on the growing scientific consenus that repeated head hits are linked to long term brain damage and the same owners who go to war with players over labor issues. These owners and the League will allow it to continue until it hits them where it hurts, in their pockets. The NFL is a business a multi billion dollar business and both Owners and the League probably wish it would just go away. The solidarity of the owners and players recently was just the owners protecting the mighty NFL Brand which should be noted that its design has an American Flag look to it.
Meanwhile I just heard on the news that Saudi Arabia is going to allow women to drive. We have it so rough in America don't we?

If you ask me they are all sob's. Players, owners, Roger Goodell etc. The average family can no longer afford to go to games. Only the wealthy privledged can afford to go to the Super Bowl. Most of these players make more in a year than I will ever see in multiple lifetimes. And these spoiled brat players usually just piss all their money away. I stopped watching the NFL years ago before all this started and what is happening with it now makes me dislike it even more. If they want to take a knee thats their right I have no problem with it but I find it very disrespectful. My question to most of them would be, what are you doing in your communities to make a difference? Are you helping with all that money you make or just buying million dollar homes, buying big diamond studs, exotic sports cars? I have a feeling if most of them went into some of the crime infested neighborhoods they would probably be told to go lecture to someone else.
Take a knee NFL players if it makes you happy. I don't have to watch it and I won't watch it. The left always has to ruin anything they dislike. Mothers Day should be changed to Guardians Day because it offends transgenders. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Fathers Day and now people are offended by the term Expectant Mothers. The Washington Redskins need to change their name. Ole Miss Rebels had to do away with the Colonel Reb mascot, now they use a bear. Even a high school here in Arkansas, Fort Smith had to change their name Rebels.
I find it very odd that players and owners of the NFL make millions while those in the Military and Law Enforcement usually make less than 50,000 a year protecting those millionaires. So take your knee NFL and feel proud.

served 15 yrs for this country (US Army) does not bother me at all.

I would imagine most of us on this board have served our country in uniform as I gave the Army 8 years. However its your right and everyone elses to have an opnion but these players actions that do not honor our flag to me have no respect to those who died for this country that allows them the freedom they have today.

If a soldier was to not salute the flag or stand at attention during the anthem he would suffer the consenquences of those actions just as these NFL players should also have to suffer the consenquences.

There are places and a time to make a stand but not honoring the flag is not that time. Personally I think these actions are more about an individual wanting attention more than anything else.

As far as the subject of "its about racism and equality or being oppressed" its all BS. Its up to people to make their own lives good or bad and not about trying to keep racism alive which continues from both fractions in this world. Its not a one-sided deal as some want to make it out to be.

BTW it wouldnt bother me one bit if the NFL or NBA folded today or tomorrow. MLB is getting there also for me.

Same here, would not bother me one bit. The NFL has become nothing more than just another big Corporation tyring to push their agenda and political views on the American Public. If they start bringing politics into College Sports like espin is trying to do I will be done with that too.

I hope we never see an OU player take a knee during the anthem

Well I don't believe Trump was calling all players SOB's.....just the small amount that took a knee. Then, as usual, democrats..minorities...and overall Trump haters severely over reacted and it became nothing more than an anti Trump demonstration egged on by ESPN. And this was supposed to accomplish what? Now the owners, the same ones that have black balled Kapernick, suddenly want to unite with all their black players? They are all so hypocritical it turns my stomach.

And the libertarian party nominated that RINO Gary "Bake that Cake" Johnson...
I hope we never see an OU player take a knee during the anthem
It is likely inevitable. Give it time.
Taking a knee in protest is not an issue with me. It's the right we all have to protest peacefully.
There are issues in the world I'm more concerned with.
And there should be.

Kneeling is no better or different than burning the flag. Its all low class

I agree it became a anti-Trump campaign by many outside of the NFL, but inside the NFL it became a necessity to stop and/or prevent a division amongst the team(s). A divided locker room is a losing locker room. The arm in arm visual we all saw I think was more for the players, coaches, ownership etc to show each other they were united, not the public. Some teams handled it well, Some sucked bad at it. The Steelers looked like shit. Bottomline, the National Anthem touches so many hearts across this country. As a result, the protesting of our nation's symbols has been very effective. The awareness factor has occurred. The real meat of the matter will be how these players take it to the next step. If they just keep protesting they might as well hang it up as the league will flop around pretty bad. If they move out of the protest stage and into a teaching/learning phase, then things will settle down & get better quickly. You can bet your bottom dollar that there have been some serious phone calls being made and back door counseling as well.

And most if not all of us would be fired on the spot if we pushed our political views on fellow employees at work. The No Fun League will take a hit from this I believe, ratings, merchandise sales and probably ticket sales. If ratings go down then these networks will offer less money when TV Contracts are negotiated. The NFL should have nipped this long before now but they are known for doing nothing when they should and too much when they should not, so we will see.

I agree with every word...

but Trump needs to grow up, toughen up and get off social media like a damn Kardashian. He's the prez now and I hope he does some good, but currently he's putting his ego ahead of his position as #$%&*@# president!!

Thanks for your service!! however, this is not about the flag, military nor vets.. wish you guys would just stop and pay attention to the reason for the protest and not the protest itself, stop hiding behind the flag.

One other thing. Sporting events are supposed to be fun. What's fun about going to a game and starting off having to watch a bunch of jocks trash your country? God in heaven, please don't let this cancer spread to CFB.
What game (s) have you been watching?I haven't seen any country trashing. o_O
