A Walk Down Memory Lane...Go Big Red!!!

I saw him at the 1964 OU-Maryland game in College Park, Md., Gomer Jones' first game as head coach, won by OU 13-3 thanks to a late 90 yard bomb from Hammond to Rentzel.
He was easily heard over the crowd as he sat a few rows in front of us. I remember him yelling "Go Red, Big Bad Red !"

I knew Cecil and his two daughters especially Cecilla. He had a flag company and a Big Red Shop on NW 23rd near Villa and I bought an OU flag from him.

On one of the many Red River Rivalries I went to ( I have been to 25 RRRs), Cecil had his car near the stadium and Cecil apparently had a bet with a Texas fan in that game. It was a painful loss to Texas that Saturday, and outside of the stadium the Texas fan was putting orange paint on Cecil's car.

.Cecil also being OU' s #1 fan had permanently written in gold on his teeth, "Big Red" on something similar. It is rumored that Cecll was buried with his right arm extended with his index finger pointing up showing OU #1

Cecil Samara was one of a kind and he is still missed.
