A song for eers2you.......HA!

I'm not sure, but I think he's thinking of wrong turn. I liked WV the several times I've been through there personally.

You know why there isn't an East Virginia?

They looked at WV and decided to let the madness stop right there...

Just kidding y'all!
We have to put up with land thieves, dirt burglars, Okies...we get it!

I was in the Navy as well as the Army and spent 4 years in East Virgina...We called it No F*** Vag....well I digress. It wasn't the most pleasant of experiences.

Hell, we got some deliverance in southeast Oklahoma.............Hill country...Nice streams and damn good hunting....

You're damn skippy. The Kiamichi.

Just awesome there.
If you want to get lost, live off of the grid, that would be an excellent place to disappear for all eternity. Just keep the guns handy. There's bear, wolves, coyote and just all manner of wildlife that was there 200 years ago.
It's the essence of wild.

I actually have 5 acres out there. Have never been to it, but I have it.

I was actually gonna make a thread about hunting in Oklahoma. You don't hear about it much in the east like you do Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, Iowa and Montana.

For its size, I would think you all would be loaded with elk and mule deer.

What, is it for hunting, primarily?

Just curious if you had any long term plan, like a cabin or something for retirement...also, is it by any rivers or creeks?
I'm nosy, I get that...:D

Investment really. I pulled about 1/2 my dough out of the market in 2007 and bought land in places across TX and OK. Got 15 acres near Wetumka, 5 out in the Kiamichi and another 40 in different places in TX. Just read into the old axiom that there is only so much land but an ever growing number of people...ergo it was a good investment.

Quite a number of other things too. I remember as a teen scaring up TONS of quail just walking around and seeing wild turkey all over the place. It's actually quite a sportsman's place to be and the taxes are quite cheap compared to most places I've lived.

No mule deer, those are north, like in Colorado.
We've got crap loads of white tail deer. Hunters took 97,000 last year here, and we'll never run out.
Actually, hunting helps populate the deer numbers, but you understand that like we do.
A few elk too, but they're protected in refuges like the Wichita Mountains. You kill one there and feds will own you for a long time. Brutal.

White tail are in abundance here too. We have plenty of bears, turkeys, coyotes, etc... too.

In the southern part of the state they are going to begin an elk stocking effort that might start as soon as early 2016. I have about 120 acres in the area established for the elk program, but if it is anything like Kentucky, it might be 10 years before any hunting will be allowed.

Since this turned into a hunting thread and that's not bad, what has happened to the quail and rabbit population in NE Oklahoma?

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, compares to the Florida panhandle.

I drove there from Oklahoma in one shot wearing Levi's and a t-shirt...greasy and funky from driving all day.

When I walked into the gas station, I believe on I-10, the entire store stopped in their tracks, eyed me up and down, and expressed their displeasure at my presence like, "freaking city slicker."

Literally men wearing overalls with no shirts etc. Deliverance type stuff.

...unless you get drawn for the hunt, of which I know people who have and they say it was awesome.

There are three Elk hunting seasons (2 gun) in November and December on private lands only. Bow season is in October.

Western Oklahoma has a lot of open country Pronghorn Antelope. Bow season only. October.
