RPI below. Based on the next to last RPI of the pre-tournament season, here's a guess at the parameters of who gets in.

There are 32 conferences who play Division I softball.
Right now, I'd guess that the Big Ten gets 5. NW, Minn, Michigan, Wiscy, Ohio State.
The SEC gets 12. All but A&M
The ACC gets 5 likely. FSU, VaTech, Notre Dame, North Carolina and the maybe Louisville.
The Pac 10 gets 5. UCLA, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State and Stanford. Oregon State at 41 is definitely on the bubble.
The Big XII gets 4. OU, OSU, Texas, Texas Tech.

That's 31 teams.
There are 27 other conferences. That's 58. So bubble teams would include teams in the 30's RPI who have a competing team in the conference win the CCT.

There are several non P5 teams that are in. James Madison plays almost nobody, but they have one of the top ten players in the country, who is a pitcher who also is a great hitter. They are 14 RPI. It's very unlikely that they lose the Colonial Tournament at home, but if the do, somebody loses a spot.

Louisiana is in at 18 RPI. If they lose their CCT, then another spot is lost. The reg season champ doesn't get to host. The Sun Belt CCT is in San Marcus Texas. There are three other decent teams in the Sun Belt.

Drake is 23 RPI and has a great pitcher. Nobody wants Drake in their regional. They have to be in. If they lose the Missouri Valley tournament, somebody else loses a spot. The MVC tournament is at Bradley.

The real bubble, depending on CCT upsets is likely around 40. Lipscomb is RPI 40. They are in the A-Sun. The ASun tournament is at Florida Gulf Coast. GFCU is the 3rd best team in the conference. Liberty is RPI 52. Gulf Coast is 67. If either of them win the tourney, Lipscomb will be interesting.

And there are non P5 conferences with more than one team under 40 RPI. Tulsa's conference has the GH is 26. South Florida is 31. Houston is a bubble dangerous 39. The CCT is in Houston.

And the Mountain West has two in the top half of the 30's. Boise is 33 and Colorado St is 35. Plus likely last four out would be UNLV at 43.

Anybody who is RPI 35-45 is likely in the severe need of winning their CCT this week. The high 30s are likely in. But upsets elsewhere could cause all kinds of rearrangements. The Mountain West follows the lead of the PAC 12. No Conference tournament. Colorado St ended their season earlier Monday, winning at BYU 2-0. They don't play this weekend. Boise State plays three games at Fresno this weekend. UNLV hosts New Mexico for 3.

A whole bunch of interesting events on the last weekend of the 2019 softball regular season.

Hard to know where to start. UCLA lost two of three to Arizona. Their best pitcher Rachel Garcia hardly pitched. The Bruins only needed to win one of three games to get the conference's number one seed. They ended up tied with Washington for the conference title, in one of four conferences who do not have a conference tournament. So Arizona, UCLA and Washington are all almost certainly top eight teams. The order will be interesting. Zona lost three straight last week at home to UDub. Then went on the road to win two of three at UCLA. Crap shoot to predict what the committee will do. Washington lost the first series of the conference season to UCLA at home, gettting swept. They've lost one game in the two months since. They were number two in the RPI last week. Almost certainly 2nd. Who will be 3rd?

Florida State, who for the first time in years did not win the regular season of the ACC, won the conference tournament, run ruling North Carolina 8-0. The top seed, Virginia Tech lost in the first round. Even though they had a better conference record than FSU, they won't even host a regional, while the Noles are virtually guaranteed to host both a regional and if they win it, a Super.

The two big winners in the CCT's were Michigan and Florida. Of course the SEC homers at ESPN were lobbying for the Gators to be in the top 8. They pitched Kelly Barnhill every inning in the last three games of the tournament . Without her in game one against South Carolina, they were behind 4-0 entering B6 and 5-2 entering B7 and pulled it out, 6-5. Then she allowed 1 run in the last three games. In the finale, she threw 140 pitches. Bama scored the one in the title game, with a very tight strike zone, according to the whiny ESPN talking heads. But it went both ways. The SEC this year has a lot of pub and pr, but not much offense. Florida might very well have gotten themselves a top eight Super bid tonight.

That in part because Minnesota, who was 8th in last weeks RPI, got hosed a bit by scheduling and lost in the finals of the Big Ten tourney to Michigan. There were clearly three quality softball teams in the BIG this season. Northwestern and Minnesota played each other last week. The Gophers won two out of three, but an additional loss earlier in the season at Illinois in extra innings gave them two losses and Northwestern two. But UMinn lost one extra game to weather, so even though they beat Northwestern two of three, the ended up seeded third. Michigan whose only conference loss was in extra innings at Ohio State, played neither UMinn or NW in the regular season. They got the one seed.

Then because of worse weather than just about anybody, the conference moved up the games Saturday, forcing the Minnesota-Northwestern winner to play back to back against Michigan. The Gophers' top pitcher dinged her wrist a little and couldn't start the game, after shutting out the Wildcats. She finally entered with a run in, and the rain coming, and Minnesota ended up behind 3-0, got it to 3-2 when a double liner hit the top of the fence and came back. In a very sloppy finish, they lost 3-2. The tournament will likely put Michigan in a as a regional host. They were 16 last week, and won the tournament. Of the big three in the conference, they were third in RPI. And the tournament will have a likely impact of costing UMinn, who was 8 last week, a top 8 finish.

After this weekend, it is very likely that OU, the three top Pac 12 teams, Florida State and Alabama are in the top eight. If it's UMinn and Florida, that seems reasonable. Texas, who was 5 two weeks ago, and 6th in RPI the first weekend of May, cost themselves in the Big XII tournament, losing to OSU and Iowa State. I'm guessing they were wishing they had the last game last night, and had their ISU loss rained out.

The good news for bubble teams is that all of the solid RPI teams from conferences with nobody else who is, all won. Drake trailed 100 RPI UNI 1-0 early, but won 4-1 in more nasty weather in Peoria. Number 40 Lipscomb with 0-0 to the 10th in the first round, but won 3-0. Tulsa got knocked out in the first round. They were in the peculiar situation of being 2nd in their conference, but having the best RPI in the AAC. Hopefully losing to East Carolina won't cost Tulsa a berth. They were in the top 30s at the beginning of the week. South Florida is the top seed, 2nd RPI in the conference at 31. They get the automatic berth, when constant rain in Houston got the tournament cancelled before the 2nd round of the CCT got started. Houston, who was 39 RPI May 5, is definitely a bubble team.

Number 14 James Madison and 18 Louisiana won their CCT's in the Colonial and the Sun Belt. There is no other conference with a team in the top 45. And the cut off is likely low 40s. Cal State Fullerton got the automatic bid from the Big West with no tournament. They were 46th.

Not likely of great interest to OU fans, but other things that happened Saturday, DePaul was the top seed in the finals of the Big East tourney. They played four seed Villanova in the finals and trailed 9-3 heading to B6. They scored 8 to go up 11-9 and won 11-10 to 140 RPI. DePaul is 91.

Coming into the weekend, Wisconsin was 39 in RPI. Ohio State was 38. They played in the Big Ten quarterfinals as 4 and 5 seeds, and Wisconsin seemed to secure a spot by run ruling Ohio State 10-1. The Buckeyes might still be in. But that is a bubble number to have been 38 and go home in the round of 8.

I will still stick with the likelihood of 12 SEC teams in the tournament with A&M the one who doesn't make it. 4.5 Big Ten teams in. tOSU would be the .5. Five Pac 12 teams in. Arizona, UCLA and UDub are in for sure. Arizona St and Stanford for very very likely. ASU more than Stanford.

Big XII is four for sure. OU, OSU, Texas and Texas Tech. The ACC second place reg season team, FSU, is top 8. Their number 1 VaTech is in the tournament, but will travel in week one. So will Notre Dame, North Carolina and Louisville is .5. Maybe .75. North Carolina beat the Cardinals 9-3 in their first CCT game.

Everybody else in the 30s is likely to be subject to committee whims tomorrow night.

So we ended up with 21 of the 32 teams with automatic bids over 45 in last week's RPI. We won't know this week's until after the bracket is released, most likely. So here is the list of the top 35 who didn't get an automatic bid and their RPI.
