MVP isn't the guy who's played best, it's the guy who was most valuable in the series. If the series ends tonight, I just don't see how a guy, even if he played great, can be called most valuable if his team wins two games out of six.

I agree Plaino. Thankfully, good judgment prevailed in this case. I'm actually a bit surprised.

I think Iguadala might have won it pretty easily if he had not shot so poorly from the free throw line. I was surprised happily that he won it. And even more surprised that there were on 11 voters. He won 7 to 4. LeBron got the 4.

The last time Golden State won the title, they did it in four games. The center on that team was Clifford Ray, and he played a role very much like that of Iguadala. With Rick Barry doing most of the scoring, along with a guard, Charles Johnson, Clifford was left to defend the interior. Jamal Wilkes had a very good series with his fluidity from forward. George Johnson, the back-up center from Dillard, had probably the best series of his career as he helped Clifford dominate the paint. I think it may be the only NBA title won by an OU graduate. Who else has one?

Did Alvan Adams win it with the Sun? I know they got to the playoff finals one year, but don't recall if they won.

The Suns only made it to the finals in his rookie year, losing in six to the Celtics.

I went looking for a great article written in SPORT magazine a month or two after the last Warrior title 40 years ago. It was basically an interview with Rick Barry who cited three primary reasons they swept the Wes Unseld-Elvin Hayes led Baltimore Bullets in their prime.

The third reason was the unselfish play and attitude of Sooner alum Clifford Ray. Al Attles was the Warrior coach. Attles had spent most of his early playing career playing with Wilt on teams that lost to the Celtics all but one season. And a large part of that was a superior Boston bench.

But Al took it to an extreme. He had a nine man rotation when most NBA teams mostly played six or seven primary minutes. They kept guys fresh and had players coming off their bench the wore down the Bullets' stars.

Kind of like last night.
