In hindsight, it obviously didn't work. But I feel like this was a message to the defense. We've grown accustomed to winning these tight games by just outscoring opponents and not worrying about the defense.
I think the decision boils down to BV telling the defense that the team will succeed when the defense learns to succeed in these tight spots. Sink or swim.
They sunk today, and have been sinking a lot lately. But BV doesn't want to win the way Lincoln did. BV has shown aggression at times this season, but he's learning how to pick those spots. Maybe this 4th down should have been one of those spots, but I understand the decision to punt.
