What bothers me about Riley is Hurts is our leading rusher when for most of the year we’ve had a solid stable of backs. It’s obvious Hurts best shot at the Heisman was having those high rushing yards, so team be damned - “I’m Coach Heisman.” Despite solid rushing from our RBs tonight Riley insist on giving the most rushes to Hurts, despite the turnovers and that our D needs to be kept off the damn field. That opening drive fizzled when Riley insisted on throwing it in the red zone even though we ran it down there. He’s lost his touch to compliment Grinch’s cluelessness. And there are no stud D playmakers in this recruiting class. Sorry, glass half empty....

Stevenson bowled up the middle for 5 yards or so on his one carry, and he was hit at the line. Baylor couldn't tackle him. But Stevenson be damned, let's go back to Hurts making decisions.

I'm an idiot. I have no idea why I thought Hurts was errantly benched by Saban. Geez, isn't that amazing that one of the greatest college coaches of all time understood football better than me? Miracles happen every day.

I am right there with you on all that, I was wrong too.
I am seeing a lot more problems with this team and Coaching Staff, its not all on the players.

One comment...a great running QB gives the offense a man advantage from a scheme standpoint. A D can focus on the RB if say LJ is at QB. Not so much with a 220 RB with speed and agility at QB. Couple that with Hurts less than stellar passing skills, comparatively speaking, and it makes all the sense in the world to run Hurts like we do.

2017, 2018, 2019 recruiting rankings for Baylor.

But we've got the genius.
It's not who you recruited. It's who you have available on game day. We're missing four offensive starters. We've got four defensive players with ACL's. And some of OUr recruits left early for the NFL.

And OUr four OL's who were drafted last year, kept these guys from getting much experience. Baylor has a bunch of guys who've played the last two years together.

And then there was the crowd to overcome. We did, but Baylor is a quality team, no matter how RIvals or 247 or especially ESPN rated their recruits. Their defensive guys, will knock the crap out of you. But we prevailed, despite facing a bunch of personnel challenges.

so i think as college football fans who happen to be spoiled by following one of the greatest programs in galactic history...we tend to over-analyze or conversely, over-simplify OUr team's saturday efforts. generally speaking, we have been fortunate to be led by legendary coaches from bennie to bud to barry to bob. now we have a guy who many in the college and PRO ranks regard as an offensive wizard (some of us prefer "genius" in a disparaging tone). so count me as one who asks us to not go too hot or too cold just yet. LR has shown flashes of brilliance in play design, and then by his own admission, moments of stunning incompetence in calls. but here's the thing guys...we could all tell gibbs didnt have it, or obviously blake or gomer, but LR can be the 5th face on OUr own wall of fame given a few more years of growth from in-game experience and improved defensive recruiting. so let's not go overboard with the negative waves. we are trending upwards but we need stability not rancor. go read the rivals texas website to see what i mean. and they wonder why the've been mediocre for the past decade.lol. lets not mimic their path to failure by instilling confusion and instability. their pain is our gain remember? we have the right guy and he's getting his coaches and players in line, just give them time.

Loved your post. I'd claim one slight disagreement. I agree that LR gets outmatched on a particular play, occasionally. But l think that more than half the time, when he says something along the lines, "bad call by me," that he's just doing what good/great coaches do. Deflecting from a player screw up. Both surely happen some.

I know the NFL teams covet LR. So he's doing something right.
