With the way the season ended, NO DEFENSE!, and the fact that the team KNOWS they are getting a top-notch DC, do you think some of the underclassmen that otherwise would have gone to the NFL might want to come back for unfinished business, mainly players on the OL?

I’m still waiting on the top notched DC. But to your point, I doubt anything that played out this season or the new DC would have much bearing on anyone’s decision. Especially since we will have an untested QB.

We're going to be just fine at QB. The offseason has to be 100% focused on the defense. If the defense can be corrected, we have more than enough firepower on offense to get back to the playoffs next season.

No one is Kyler Murray, but with Kendall, Mordecai, Rattler, and possibly Hurts or Fields transferring to OU, the offense will still be dangerous. The OL might take a hit if we lose a lot to the NFL, but we have a ton of depth and quality recruits to reload.

2019 depends on the defense, not the QB, to be successful.

Ed Sullivan “What’s that? Your crash helmet?”

Astronaut Jose Jimenez “Oh, I hope not.”

2019 may be even more of "the best defense is a good offense" scenario for OU.
Defensive improvement won't happen one season removed from what we saw this season. Coaching and personnel need an overhaul.

Alabama proved the talent and depth gap is pretty wide between the Tide and Sooners. Defensively especially. Just so painful to watch Kyler on the bench wincing each time the defense failed. He tried to bail out the boat, but too much water had come through. Looking ahead to next year, we will be strong on offense and questionable on defense. Unless we get a super defensive brain in there with his recruited players, I can’t see the hoped turnaround. Golding has his work cut out for him. Hope the young pups can make a difference on D. The defensive line needs tremendous work to improve.

Bring Rex Ryan back :) A joke but does anyone else remember us wanting Bob to keep him but knowing we would get Mike instead?

I think OU will be decent on offense, as usual, in 2019. But losing a quarterback who had the greatest single season in CFB history will be felt, especially late in close games.
But I have no expectations of what will become of the defensive side. There's just too much mending to do from coaching to personnel.
I won't hurt that West Virginia and Ok-State lose their starting QB's, but Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor and Texas return good quarterbacks.
I'm not buying Golding coming in as DC until he's signed sealed and delivered. OU needs him or someone like him before spring drills start in March.
