2016 Sooners vs. Buckeyes visitor thread

Greetings from Columbus, everyone.

I'm heading to Norman next year with my brother who is a big Sooners fan while I'm a die-hard Buckeye. It will be our first time there so I'm looking for a good hotel that's close, best places to park, best places to tailgate, best bars for Friday, and best restaurants. Any other recommendations you want to throw in will be appreciated.

We had the home and away with the Longhorns back in '05 and '06 and it was much better than the home and away with USC a couple years later. We have our share of idiots I'm embarrassed to say but you can expect some great Midwest hospitality when in Columbus. What should I expect the reception to be when on campus. I'm not a big OSU gear wearer but I might have to since my brother and I will be talking sh** to each other the whole weekend. Is wearing OSU colors going to bring me an invitation to fight, frozen marshmallows with quarters in them (Wisky), a bag of urine thrown at me (Penn State) or anything similar?

Best of luck to both teams. Thanks for any help.

Oh heck no. Expect instead to be offered a beer and food when you walk past tailgaters. You'll be treated with respect.

I really doubt anything you mentioned will happen to you in Norman.
If it does, it will be unprecedented really.
(piss in a bag? Oh man, that's punch a douche out time)

Wear your colors proudly.
I'm thinking you'll be treated with the respect and accorded all the courtesies that OU fans expect when they travel to away games.

As far as hotels, focus on the Bricktown area in OKC. Lots of amenities down yonder. (I'm in Tulsa)

Sooner fans live among toothless hillbilly OSU (Oklahoma State) fans daily, so we're a pretty accepting group, especially of your OSU.

My Longhorn friends, to a man, said the road trip to Columbus was the worst away game they had ever attended. Apparently the abuse from Buckeye fans was LSU like and it was not isolated. Many were on fear for their safety.

I think you'll be impressed with the reception you'll receive. Just a bit good natured ribbing will most likely all you'll receive if you even receive this. Wear your colors and enjoy Norman and all that gameday festivities offer.

I've heard the same. In fact, I was hassled by a large group of Buckeye fans in San Antonio while watching the OU/TX game. It never went to fist city, but close. There was about 10 of them jawing pretty loud at my wife & I as we sat in front of them. About 20 Sooner fans got up and surrounded our table. The Mgr then came over closed their tabs and forced them to leave. I enjoy going on road trips and I think I'll pass on this one. Sure wished I pulled the trigger on a Knoxville trip though.

All this mindless behavior over a game with no real relevance and over an event in which the spectators have no bearing on the outcome.
"My football factory is better than your football factory"....why is this important enough to fight over and maybe lose your life over ?

I would agree to a certain point, but it is much more civil than most of the European soccer/football matches....or being an opponents fan in San Francisco.

It wasn't and never said it was. We unfortunately found ourselves sitting in front of a large group of rowdies. Four of which followed me into the restroom to hassle me and then it continued while in our seats. OU was whipping up on UT pretty good and for some reason, they decided to chastise us. All was good until a thrown drink straw landed on the wife. That's when I started to seriously take notice that these guys were itching for trouble. Until then it was just boisterous smack talking on their behalf. At least I thought so. Anyway, when I stood up and confronted the guy, most of all of them stood up as well. I found myself seriously out numbered, so I wisely backed down. Less than a minute later, a 2nd straw hit her and about 20 Sooner fans all stood up with me and the shouting started. I think the Mgr had his eye on them for awhile as he literally jumped/flew over the bar and threw one of them out immediately. He then cut them all off, closed their tabs and forced them out. All was well & good after this. And we all went about returning to the enjoyment of the game. BTW, this was a spot right off the river walk in SA. Weird deal but it was handled pretty quick.

WNAS, my post was not a response to your earlier post. It's a general comment on my feelings on bad behavior by fans. I"m sorry you and your wife got caught up such stupid, classless bullshit.

Yes, we have our fair share of jackass fans so I apologize on behalf of the countless decent Buckeye fans.

Is there an area that is best for a hotel?

I think you'd enjoy it better in DT OKC. An area known as Bricktown. Google hotels in this area.
