the talent gap is real....
  • SEC - 10
  • ACC - 6
  • Big Ten - 4
  • Pac-12 - 4
  • Mountain West - 3
  • Independent - 2
  • American - 1
  • Big 12 - 1
  • Conference USA - 1

No surprise there, look at where all the last 12 or so National Title Trophies are, in SEC Trophy Cases. But hey OU wins the big 12 every year or so and its all good!

OU winning the Big 12 as often as it has just is not enough anymore after so long a time of falling short in the post season.
The OU teams of 2003, 2004, 2008, 2015, and 2017 (5 attempts) could not seal the deal and were badly beaten in two of those games....one (55-19 loss to USC) was an epic mauling.
It is not "all good". Not anymore.

I agree CT, I was saying all that with sarcasm. The mentality of not putting enough emphasis on the defensive side of the ball and just outscoring your opponents with a high flying offense just has not gotten it done. It works ok in the Big 12 but outside of it not so much. Defense does win Championships and the lack of one cost us a Natty this year.

Uh...Big 12 finished strong considering first round. Conner Williams should have been first rounder and Orlando was a lock until his combine. Bad luck.

20 Big 12 total drafted up from 14 last year (14 was an all time low since Big 12 inception). 26 in 2016 is the record in the 10 team league. Was in the 20’s and 30’s consistently in the old Big 12 but that was with 12 teams.

Conference is trending up! Chins up.

Nobody not named Alabama from the SEC has won it all since Auburn bought Cam Newton back in the 2010 season, so IMO, that first point you're trying to make is a bit deceiving (btw, a non-SEC team has won 3 of the last 5, fwiw). Agreed on your insinuation on your 2nd point though, it's high time one was brought to Norman.

I know many will disagree but it starts with recruiting elite 5 star players. Case in point: Alabama had 12 players taken in the draft this year. OU had 4. Saban only needs to mention this stat and have the inside track on any kid coast to coast (and Hawaii).
Very true.....but coaching factors in as well. In OU's case this is especially true on defense.

At some point you would think or at least I like to think it would happen is Bob would whisper in Mikes ear and tell him its time to move on for the good of the program but I won't hold my breath.
While it may be true that the majority of those National Titles are in Alabama's trophy case since 2009 if you go back starting in 1998, 6 SEC teams not named Bama won it all, Tenn in 98, LSU in 03, Florida in 06, LSU in 07, Florida in 08, Auburn in 2010. 3 SEC teams lost in the title game since 1998, LSU lost to Bama in 2011, Auburn lost to Florida St in 2013 and Georgia lost to Bama in 2017.
Thats a lot of teams not named Bama from the SEC that have played for it all since 1998.
In that span Bama has won 5 and lost 1. Bama may have the most NC Trophies in that span of any single SEC Team but they don't have them all, they have 5 out of 11 that the SEC has won since 1998 and 5 of the last 9 with two of those won vs 2 different SEC teams, LSU in 2011 and Georgia in 2017.
Not even going to compare what the Big 12 has done in that span.

Most certainly true. The difference between Stoops (now Riley) versus Saban? Stoops/Riley runs the program like a family and Saban runs his program like a business. Passive nepotism versus aggressive accountability.
