This was one of the greatest OU teams ever. Ended up winning the Natty. But lost to 5-4 Kansas at home by 20. Why? 8 turnovers. A team with Steve Davis, Joe Washington, Horace Ivory, Elvis Peacock, Lee Roy Selmon, Dewey Selmon, Jimbo Elrod, and on and on could not overcome 8 turnovers against a middling Kansas team.

Last night, a good team that doesn’t compare to the 75 team did almost as bad. They still could have beaten Arizona. They did quite a few things well. JA had great moments. The D line played one of its best games. The offense compiled huge stats. There were flashes of where this young team could get. But they, and basically no other team, will overcome over 5 turnovers. Simple as that.

It is on BV to fix the turnover problem, no doubt. It’s on BV to fix the penalty problem, no doubt. But this team is not that far from being a legit contender. The sky is not falling and we don’t need to start cleaning house.

By the way, Switzer’s teams were plagued by turnovers through the years. I have no doubt many on this board would not have handled the Switzer years very well.
