That was probably targeting on Dede Westbrook. What makes it worse? We’ve been told consistently that officials are going to throw the flag when it’s close and let the replay reign it in from there. What makes it even worse? The officials still threw 23 flags for a total of 245 combined penalty yards.

I mentioned this on Twitter, but could you imagine that Oklahoma could have 212 passing yards at half and Sterling Shepard would only have one catch? He ended the game with 35 yards, but Dede Westbrook finished with 107 yards, Durron Neal had a career high with 87 yards and a touchdown, and Michiah Quick re-appeared for 69 receiving yards of his own.

Either Lincoln Riley lied to everybody when he hinted at running 50, 55, or even 60% of the time this season or he has developed little faith in his offensive line. I tend to lean towards the latter.

4
I’ll continue to lead the bandwagon for true freshman kicker Austin Seibert who is now 7/7 on field goals and 3/3 from 40+ yards on the season. Also, against West Virginia three of his five punts were downed inside the 20 with a 43.4 average and six total punt return yards.

Oklahoma had two turnovers entering the game and left it with seven. Oh, and it was against the number one team in the FBS in turnover margin. It’s become axiomatic to say that “turnovers decide games,” but it’s shocking how often it proves to be true. In no small part because it can be a symptom of other problems rather than a cause.

Congratulations to fellow Norman North alum Jordan Evans on becoming the first Timberwolf to score a touchdown as an Oklahoma Sooner. The school was established in 1997. Although, if Bob offers me a scholly that might be a different story…

You can see why Jordan Thomas had all of that preseason hype. He became the first Sooner to intercept two passes in one game since Javon Harris vs Kansas in 2012. However, the most impressive play of the game might have been when he had given up a few steps down the sideline, but never panicked as he turned to find the ball and rather nonchalantly knock it away. Mighty impressive stuff for a true sophomore.

Can we stop with the uniforms affecting performance nonsense?

9
You can credit the Big 12 and college football in general just getting better and having more parity, but this is a game Oklahoma runs away with to start the second half on its championship teams. However, as much as Oklahoma struggled to put West Virginia away, they did a terrific job answering every time they began to make a run - most notably, Durron Neal’s 71-yard touchdown reception following Skyler Howard’s 50-yard touchdown run. The only time the Mountaineers were able to score twice uninterrupted was Josh Lambert’s field goal off of the Dede Westbrook fumble to make it 24-17 Oklahoma early in the third quarter.

10
For those of you not getting too excited about Oklahoma being 4-0, just remember how you felt at halftime of Tennessee. What were your expectations for the team then versus now? Don’t let your mind’s ability to adjust to new outlooks stop you from enjoying your team’s 20-point victory over a top-25 team to stay undefeated.
