    Coaches Poll #3

When defense is prioritized as much as offense at OU, championships will come. Yielding 40, 37, 54, 45 and 63 points does not reflect championship relevance, and I choose not to compare OU to other teams, especially Texas. Grinch looks to be bringing in talent to make it happen.....and getting...

Great. And if OU gets into the playoffs, it will only have to face Clemson or Alabama or Ohio State. Piece of cake.

    Marcus Major

We should regard Clay's time at OU as significant and not focus on whether or not he was "elite", as it isn't necessary....or debatable. OU's history has had many players of lesser notoriety, like Clay, who made contributions which produced game changing deeds.

Hickson (2001-2005) always had guys like Griffin, Works, Jones, Wolfe (before he was moved to defense) and a some guy named Peterson but was a talented player who evidently chose the wrong school as a highly recruited player.

Chris Brown was solid and I agree he was not special when compared to backs that have been on OU's "Mount Rushmore" level. Same is true of Clay, Jones, Madu, Works and Hickson.

    Marcus Major

You don't believe his injury early last season may have diminished his development, or that Brooks, Sermon, Pledger and Stevenson may have impacted his playing time....okay. As for Clay, Alabama (2013), K-State (2013) and O-State (2012)....just to name a few.....might view him differently and...

Yes, it does. But if the player wants it, he gets it on many occasions.

Big 10 back in business 10/24

Again, it's all about money. What harm are a few asterisks after the minimized 2020 season anyway ?

    Marcus Major

Bottom line....if Major can ultimately become an "average" back like Clay was....would anyone here be unhappy ? To say he would never have played during Switzer's time is as questionable as it is irrelevant.

So the Big XII wants “unity messages”?

What's unifying about the rhetoric used by the BLM mob and people like Primus ? Primus, unfortunately, represents this divisive movement for what it has proven to be.

I saw Earl play at the Texas HS All-Star game in the Dome. His team won 13-12 as I recall with the winning play a fake handoff to Earl which left a wide open receiver in the end zone. Earl is my favorite running back ever.

Prior to 1971, I don't recall OU ever having single digit numbers. Then in 1971, OU listed six players with such numbers, notably PK Fulcher #8 and QB Stokely #9.

It's not about player or fan comfort anyway. $$$ talks.

Thank you. Would have been interesting to see what Switzer would have done with number "20" had he recruited Earl in 1974.....then Sims in 1975.

    Plaino....

A question (not a concern): Why are so many college teams giving single digit numbers to DE's and DT's. OU has DL Grimes wearing #14 and DE Perkins wearing #7. Are numbers chosen by some players ? I think it looks strange.

    Marcus Major

Agree. I will add that after watching the complete game highlights, I did not see either Major or Hudson as being less than adequate reserves for Riley to use. Both players had some good moments, even against a high school defense. But again, such a mismatch as this game was really makes it...
