Thursday Notes...(UPDATE:1:20p)

UPDATE: 1:20p - I've spoken with a few people around the situation of Jase McClellan and what I get is that this is going to come down to the wire.

Alabama is really, really, really pushing hard for the Rivals100 running back to the point that I think it has surprised some people - not just around Norman, but around college football recruiting in general.

McClellan is a good player, there is no doubt about it but the press the Tide is giving feels more connected to and Adrian Peterson-type.

And what it basically comes down to is need, Alabama has two backs committed but they see McClellan as a guy who would be their best in the class.

Still though McClellan and Oklahoma are maintaining contact and there hasn't felt to be any real shift to the status quo.

I'd still bet on Oklahoma but I'm kind of at the point of 'nothing would surprise me'.

We'll see as obviously there's still a week to go.

UPDATE: 9:27a -
Looks like Joshua Ellison is already zeroing in on when his decision will come...

*OK guys, it's been a crazy day - and I'm sorry these didn't get up earlier but Layla has been having some ear infection issues and we got into see a specialist for a last minute appointment today, so I was running ever since the end of the podcast.

I know you all don't much care about any personal issues, but did want to explain why I'd been a bit MIA.

At any rate, here's what I've heard over the last few hours...

First off is I know everyone is dying to hear about Major Burns and what his decommitment (processing) from LSU will have to do with Oklahoma. For now? Probably not a lot. I've talked to a few people and there just isn't a strong feeling about his senior tape but Burns is a kid that Oklahoma has always liked and I think they'd like to make it work if they could.

It's just very unlikely it could work now. Should he not sign on Wednesday and the Sooners have a few things shake out in January then perhaps Burns and Oklahoma start circling each other again come the second signing period.

That's a lot of ifs but right now Oklahoma has a pretty clear focus on it's two options at cornerback.

**Following last night's in-home visit with Dontae Manning Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley tweeted out some eyes that had everyone losing their mind.

In talking to some people going in, as I mentioned in Tuesday Notes, there was a feeling that coming out of the in-home visit the Sooners would make some decisions on what was going to happen next in cornerback recruiting.

And that's exactly what has happened though I'm still not quite clear if Oklahoma will take a third corner in the right scenario.

***Spoke to a source about Oklahoma's in-home visit with Justin Harrington on Tuesday and I'm told that things went very well.

"(Harrington) didn't really have any questions, those all got answered on the official."

So nothing has changed with him since the official?

"Not at all."

I think the Sooners are in great standing here.

****Perhaps most importantly as I was checking around a bit on Chandler Morris and Auburn and how likely that could be going forward I first hit something that was a bit interesting.

First, the Tigers DO want a second quarterback and I'm told that Morris is an idea that is as preferable, and probable, as any for them right now.

That being said all acknowledged that there is some concern over Morris finding himself in the same spot he was earlier this year with his father potentially not being at Jordan-Hare while his son is still in the quarterback room.

With that in mind, I was talking to a few sources about some of the backlash of what I'd heard out of Auburn I got an interesting quote.

"Yeah, he's all in."

I read it three times to see if I'd read it right...

"You mean, with Oklahoma?"

"Yes."

I hadn't seen that coming and I still think there are some hills to climb but Oklahoma's in better shape than even I (who had been picking him to Oklahoma for a few weeks now) had been led to believe.

Everyone's thoughts on Sat and big 12 championship

How's everyone feeling about game Saturday? I gotta say, nice to be going into it after nice performance last night. Finally played little more of complete game and got in on turnover party! In past we have thrived in this position and gotta think teams confidence is pretty high going in. Will be interesting to see chess match this go round and what approach both teams take.
