Lehman Raves about Ugwoegbu at MLB

On the August 5th episode of the Oklahoma Breakdown podcast, he went out of his way to single him out. Few things he mentioned were he is very natural at the position even without ever playing it. Has good eyes in knowing where to look, that he dwarfs Kenneth Murray in size(6'4 245) amongst other things. Got me excited that we might have another absolute stud at the position!

Are you available FRI from 11:30 to 1:00 pm to listen to OU football coaches?

Hey guys,

I had an idea. Since we haven't had any media so far this fall, I thought I would do something for the board. The Norman Citizen's Advisory Board is having their coaches luncheon tomorrow virtually.

How many of you could definitely commit to attending that event online? Lincoln Riley, Alex Grinch and Shane Beamer will be speaking and doing a Q&A session. You would be able to attend the event online and listen to the coaches.

I will buy your tickets but I was curious how many tickets to buy. The maximum number of tickets for a sponsor is 25 for the event.

They have packages for 15 and 5 people as well.

If you definitely want to attend this event, please respond and I will take care of your ticket for you just to say thanks for staying with us and to celebrate the hopeful start of the football season.

First come first serve. The 25 ticket package is what I would like to get but I need to know how many are truly committed.

Just respond in the thread.

OT: What is the Most ... Part One

... intense movie scene you’ve ever seen? Saw https://www.wearethemighty.com/mili...refights-hollywood?rebelltitem=1#rebelltitem1 today on The Facebook. Gold standard (number two on that link) is introduction to Saving Private Ryan. That scene is Sicario is pretty intense though!

You don’t HAVE to have a link to play, albeit from me to deter competition, but if you want to be seriously considered for the crown, you best have a link!

Wilford Brimley -- an iconic actor who was the face of Quaker Oats for years, as well as a spokesperson for diabetes education -- has died ... a rep tells TMZ.

We're told Brimley passed away Saturday morning at his home in Utah. Sources with direct knowledge of Wilford's health tell us he was in an ICU wing of a hospital on dialysis, and very sick for days.

Wilford had a lengthy career on camera, dating back to the 1970s with over 70 acting credits. He's perhaps most known for roles in cult classic films like "Cocoon," "The Natural," "The Thing," "Hard Target," and countless other memorable on-screen appearances, big and small.

Brimley started out as mostly a TV actor, landing one-time roles on TV series like "How the West Was Won," 'Kung Fu,' "The Oregon Trail," and then eventually ... a recurring part on "The Waltons." He went on to star in a bunch of TV movies, such as "The Wild Wild West Revisited," "Amber Waves," "Roughnecks," "Rodeo Girl," 'The Big Black Pill,' and so on.

In the '80s, he started breaking out into more traditional films, appearing in flicks like "High Road to China," "10 to Midnight," "Tough Enough," "Jackals," "End of the Line," and a bunch of other B-movies where he'd often play an authority figure or a grandfatherly figure with his deep, comforting Southern accent. One of the best character actors without a doubt.

He went on to star in countless other movies and shows, notably on "Our House," in which he starred in over 40 episodes, as well one-off appearances in hit series like "Walker, Texas Ranger," "Seinfeld," and so many others.

Folks might remember Wilford more for commercials though over the years -- specifically, his campaigns with Quaker Oats through the '80s and '90s, and maybe even more memorable ... his classic diabetes ads for Liberty Medical -- which was often spoofed, but also beloved.

Wilford was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus in 1979, and managed the disease ever since then -- obviously, he was very open about it. The American Diabetes Association honored him for his lifetime of advocacy in 2008.

A rep for Wilford tells TMZ, one of his favorite quotes was from a sign at a blacksmith's shop. It read, "There is nothing made, sold, or done that can't be made, sold, or done cheaper. If price is your only concern, please do business with my competitor."

He's survived by his wife, Beverly, and his three children.

Wilford was 85. RIP

OT: Red & West Update

Since football season is (hopefully) just around the corner, I wanted to provide an update about Red & West, my gameday apparel side project. I know that the Corner isn't LinkedIn, and out of respect for the Mods' business, I won't be 'obnoxious business promoter guy' that does this a lot. Here is a teaser: there is a discount code for you at the end of this.

If you remember / care, I worked with OU to get a bunch of Switzer polos made. Thanks to many of you, I sold out of those pretty quickly. I have 6 size Smalls left (they're not listed on my site anymore; DM me if you want one). For several reasons, it doesn't make sense for me to keep selling those in the near term, and I've taken the site in a new direction. Hopefully in the long term I can bring those back.

As a follow up act, I've pivoted the brand towards becoming a lifestyle brand that sells apparel "for people that are obsessed with Oklahoma." (Just what the word needs, another lifestyle clothing brand!) I've developed some new logos that I think are pretty cool and while the name of the business is still Red & West, I'm having some fun with things and made up a fake country club as a backstory for the new logos. Think University of Okoboji if you're familiar with Lake Okoboji in Iowa.

A quick word on the new products: Everything but the hats (printed on demand and drop-shipped) are sitting in my guest room and can ship ASAP. I used 2 suppliers for the current round of products; one of those suppliers is a newish brand called Turtleson that uses the same factory in South Korea as Peter Millar for their (and now my) polos. The tee shirt is Comfort Colors and were printed in Norman.

Part of the reason I started this is because when I looked at the gameday apparel market, I saw a barbell: inexpensive but low quality and relatively unattractive products on one end, but then on the other, much more expensive products from more recognizable brands - however I've just never felt that the quality or uniqueness from those more major brands justified their much higher price tags. So I am going to try to sit in the middle: good quality products at a mid-range price point.

No worries at all if my designs or price points aren't for you. However, if you're interested, use code "scooptown" for 10% off any order. Please keep that code on the board, I want it to be a benefit just for Scoopers. That code will run until 8/29. We also have an email list and social media if you want to give us a follow.

Thank you, stay hard, and (trigger warning) Boomer Sooner.

REPORT: Big 12 down to two options? ... (Dodd)

In a report released Friday evening it would appear the Big 12 is down to two options.

Option A: 12 game season
Option B: 9+1 = 10 game season

"The Big 12's athletic directors were split Friday while meeting to recommend which scheduling model the conference should use in a 2020 season that remains in flux amid the coronavirus pandemic. The conference is currently considering two primary options: a complete 12-game season or a 10-game schedule including one nonconference opponent, several league sources tell CBS Sports."

What I find interesting is this part:

"In the 10-game model, it is believed the Big 12 would play its conference schedule along with one nonconference game that would take place before the league slate begins, likely on Sept. 19 or Sept. 26."

I think THAT is what they end up doing. But we shall see. What does that do to OU's scheduled opener on Aug.29? So many questions. So very few answers.

Opinion: We will know Monday (when they are supposed to meet again and make a decision)

OT: Best place to eat after not eating there for 2-3 months

I went to campus corner and grabbed some Jimmy Johns tonight. Literally my favorite sandwich (Turkey Tom, no tomatoes, no cheese with jalapeno chips) and probably my favorite meal to enjoy on a semi-regular basis.

I would get sick of it eating it too much.

But curious if there is a place like that for you? I would say Van's Pig Stand is right up there for me too. Maybe Firehouse Subs. Bison Witches used to be that, but that place is kind of dirty and turned me off.

There are other places like Sandros and the Chicken Grande Burrito at The Mont that I can eat every week.

Maybe Taco Lights at Taco Casa fit that once every 2-3 months bill for me.
