Five Sooners will decide to leave or return next year....

WR Mims
OL Harrison
OL Mettauer
DB Washington
DL Redmond
All could use another year at OU, but my guess is 1 or 2 stay, whom I hope are Harrison and Mims.
I think of the 5, Harrison is most likely to leave.
Mims is not an elite receiver, at least by OU standards, but he's important given the depth shortage of proven receivers.
I believe Gabriel returns and I hope he does.
Whatever happens, I see lots of this year's freshman and the 2023 class playing an important role next season as Venables' recruits start to take over OU's football fortune.

WOKElahoma - November 23, 2022

A lot of what would be covered here has been stolen by one notes thread or another so I thought I'd just take a look at the Bedlam visitor list and kind of go over where I think Oklahoma is for much of the list.

OFFICIAL VISITORS:

David Hicks - DT - Katy (Texas) Paetow - OU OFFER - TAMU COMMIT - 5-STAR

We've talked a lot about this one but it definitely feels like the Sooners are right back in the thick of things.

We'll see where it goes with the A&M talk but that feels like a recipe that could blow up in the Aggies face if things are as toxic on the inside as they appear from the outside.

Ashton Sanders - DT - Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral - OU COMMIT

Commit landed, job pretty much done here. Sanders wants to play for Todd Bates and that's not something anyone is likely to overcome.

Daymion Sanford - LB - Katy (Texas) Paetow - OU OFFER - TAMU COMMIT - 4-STAR

This one is kind of wild, some think the Sooners have done big work here but I'll admit I'm not buying it yet. Too many people around him would prefer him at A&M.

UNOFFICIAL VISITORS:

Jackson Arnold - 2023 - QB - Denton (Texas) Guyer - OU COMMIT - RIVALS100

Notre Dame has a quarterback - can we be done with that stupidity now?

Peyton Bowen - 2023 - S - Denton (Texas) Guyer - OU OFFER - ND COMMIT - RIVALS100

I don't think there's a guy Oklahoma has moved for more in the last month. I like where they are very much.

Grant Brix - 2024 - OT - Logan (Iowa) Magnolia Community - OU OFFER

He really liked his trip and I think a return is completely possible.

Dax Collins - 2024 - S - Poteau, Okla.

Collins is a guy that I like a lot on tape and keep thinking the Sooners could go in on him.

Kendel Dolby - 2023 - S - Miami (Okla.) Northeastern Oklahoma A&M - OU OFFER

I think the Sooners are in great standing here and have a forecast in as evidence.

Aaron Flowers - 2024 - CB - Forney, Texas - OU OFFER - RIVALS250

Flowers really enjoyed himself and you can tell the environment really impressed the really talented young defensive back.

Stacy Gage - 2024 - RB - Tampa (Fla.) Wharton - OU OFFER - RIVALS100

Gage is a guy that I think the Sooners have led for and continue to. There's no denying that the Ohio State effort won't be easily overcame but at the end of the day I think he's a kid that wants to be at Oklahoma.

Aivery Haynesworth - 2025 - RB - Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Oakland - OU OFFER

Haynesworth's first time at a major program definitely made a big impression and though it's early a return seems very likely as he was clearly impressed by Demarco Murray.

Logan Howland - 2023 - OT - Princeton (N.J.) The Hun School - OU COMMIT

He's as solid as any guy could be and while current guys are wishing for more games he's wishing he didn't have to stay in Jersey for the spring semester.

Noah Mikhail - 2025 - LB - La Verne (Calif.) Bonita - OU OFFER - RIVALS100

Mikhail seems very high on the Sooners at this early point but honestly I need to chat with him a bit more.

Heath Ozaeta - 2023 - OL - Snoqualmie (Wash.) Mount Si - OU COMMIT

Ozaeta, as mentioned, did some interesting work with Peyton Bowen and may have helped the Sooners out in a roundabout way.

Deyjhon Pettaway - 2025 - CB - Katy (Texas) Paetow - OU OFFER - RIVALS100

Pettaway was one of the bigger surprises of the weekend for me, and I mean that in not just that he came at all but that he seemed so interested in what the Sooners had to say. Some of that is being a young guy but he felt legitimately intrigued.

Weston Port - 2025 - LB - San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) San Juan Hills - OU OFFER - RIVALS100

Port is very big on the Sooners right now and seems to really like what Brent Venables and co. are pitching.

Nigel Smith - 2024 - DL - Melissa, Texas - OU OFFER - RIVALS100

As I mentioned in a thread on the board I love where the Sooners are for Smith and think they'd be my pick if I had to pick today. But I don't and I think some other schools might get more serious and see his recruitment heat up a bit.

Daylan Smothers - 2023 - RB - Charlotte (N.C.) West Charlotte - OU COMMIT - Rivals250

It feels like this checked all the boxes for him and he continues to be rock solid.

David Stone - 2024 - DL - Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy - OU OFFER - RIVALS100

I know a lot of worry and concern has been stated on Stone's situation but this is a guy that just loves Oklahoma. I think it was likely to be his choice before the staff change but with the addition of Venables and Bates, he seems to believe there just aren't many better options than the school he's long talked about playing for.

Give it time.

Harrison Utley - 2024 - OL - Norman (Okla.) North

Utley is a guy that is definitely hoping to pick up an offer but something tells me he's a guy that the Sooners might want to see at summer camp against some elite comp to really gauge where they are on him. But make no mistake he could be a part of the 2024 class.

Taylor Wein - 2023 - DE - Nolensville, Tenn. - OU COMMIT

See Ashton Sanders.

Colton Yarbrough - 2025 - DE - Durant, Okla.

Yarbrough is a guy that I thought would hit the ground running a bit more than he has at Durant early on but he's really adding some size and could emerge as a major target for Oklahoma if everything comes together.

(Sorry, this was written during a flight this morning and I kept forgetting to actually post it while traveling up around Grand Lake).

And guys, you know...NO SCOOP THIS WEEK.

LOVE YOU ALL, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

What's at stake this weekend

Hate to pee in your cranberry sauce, but we are fighting Tech this weekend for 6th place in the conference and the indignity of either the AutoZone Bowl (if TCU holds on to a playoff spot) or the Guaranteed Rate Bowl if TCU loses in the CCG (and if we lose to Tech and TCU loses, Lockheed Martin here we come!):

1. Sugar Bowl vs SEC

Highest-ranked available Big 12 team, if it’s not the Big 12 Champion.

2. Valero Alamo Bowl vs Pac-12

3. Cheez-It Bowl vs ACC

4. Mercari Texas Bowl vs SEC

5. AutoZone Liberty Bowl vs SEC

6. Guaranteed Rate Bowl vs Big Ten [vs Purdue?]

Other Bowl Tie-Ins

– Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl vs American Athletic, C-USA, Pac-12

– SERVPRO First Responder Bowl vs ACC, American Athletic, or Pac-12

So, about DG

Man, when he’s going good he looks like a pretty decent QB. When he’s bad what is it? Is it playcalling? Is Gabriel trying to be too perfect? Lot of time it looks like he’s just trying to hard to not make a mistake. He seems to play good when he just slings it. I mean this guy will probably start again next season. Is he OU good? Not Baker and Kyler good, but good enough after a season to get comfortable.
I mean you have Willis, Farooq, Mims, Gray, Stoops…that’s pretty good skill players

OT: Membership idea

As @Smash Williams pointed out .. we need a way to create a larger cast system on membership plaques. I say if we’re going to do it let’s go all the ****ing way with it... hear me out.

we now have silver (monthly) and gold (yearly), BUT I propose a Diamond tier and a Black Opal tier (pretty much rainbow Diamond)

Diamonds are given to those who donate $100 or more a month to crimson and cream NIL.

Black opals for those who donate $1000 or more a month to Crimson and Cream NIL.

What do you think here .... I say we go all the way with it if we’re going to poor shame silvers let’s go full hunger games and turn our arrogance and competitive nature into somthing that will benefit OU .... #NIL.

Monday Morning Idiot: Bedlam

Alright guys, this one has a chance to get weird as I'm going to be doing it and going nuts for the USMNT all at the same time.

I want to see what happened in the run game, did Oklahoma really just fall off with their work up front or what?

Was the passing game messed up as much as I felt by some of the snap issues that were going on?

Finally, how often was Oklahoma having to bring pressure to put Spencer Sanders under heat.

OT: Anyone had a problem with their Home Insurance Company - Allstate

My home insurance originally was at $775k

These idiots added another $1 million to my policy for $1,775,000.00 without me knowing for the whole year of 2021 and they just sent the invoice to my mortgage company and they paid it. I’ve never seen anything like it. They won’t credit or give my mortgage company back the money and now I’m having to sue them.

Tuesday Notes...(UPDATE: 1:24p)

UPDATE: 1:24p - OK guys, on Saturday I reported before kickoff that Andrew Raym wasn't going to be part of the game but it was already known at that time that he was going to have surgery for a shoulder injury that had been bothering him since the preseason.

Now that surgery has come and passed and I can say the reason for the decision to go ahead and do it was the belief that doing so would have him ready in January to get started with offseason workouts and be able to work on the thing he knows he's most in need of - time with Jerry Schmidt to get bigger and stronger.

This was undoubtedly a tough decision for Raym and the Oklahoma staff but it could help them considerably in 2023.

ORIGINAL: OK guys, some things to get going...

There's some growing buzz that Oklahoma isn't done for the week, we'll see where that goes but a guy I've talked to several people about and was tempted to put a forecast in for when he and I spoke about his Oklahoma offer is Miami (Okla.) Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (AKA, 'NEO') defensive back Kendel Dolby. And today I went ahead and did so.

Speaking to Dolby late Sunday, he had this to say about his first trip to Norman.

"It was a great experience. I loved the environment," Dolby said. "The fans are unmatched."

And what are his thoughts on the Sooners coaching staff and where he might fit into Oklahoma's plans?

"I was able to meet all the coaches, eat lunch with them. Was also able to walk out the tunnel with Coach (Brent) Venables. I can tell they genuinely want me in their program," he explained.

"They talked to me about the opportunity to come in and play right away if I work for it. They want to play me all over the field weather it’s safety, nickel, or corner."

Again, I think Oklahoma is in great shape here and he will be setting up an official visit in December perhaps as early as this week.

**I had a chance to speak a lot with one of the new offers from the weekend - 2025 Rivals100 linebacker Weston Port.

The San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) San Juan Hills defender absolutely loved his trip to Norman.

"It was incredible, the fans, the rivalry, the coaches…(all were) really really cool," Port said.

"I will definitely be back."

While many guys get an offer when they hit the head guy's office, for Port his story was a little more unique.

"On the field during team warmups. It was really cool. (Venables) talked about the vision of the program, what was being built and the part I could play in that. (It) meant a lot," he said.

Bourbon

Being on the board has made me want to try a few bourbons this year. I’m in my upper 20s and have drank predominantly vodkas. I didn’t drink muck but I quit smoking weed and cigarettes a few years ago and drink probably a pint a month. Give me some names of bourbons I can get for around 100 bucks. Keep in mind I don’t have a great tongue for bourbon as It may matter. Gonna grab a few and may start a new habit (hobby?)
