Couple of huge mistakes tonight

There was plenty bad on the night, but couple of plays that were killers were one, the fake fg and two, hurry up on 4th down play in 2nd quarter. On the fake fg, there was just no reason in doing it, take the 3 points, go up 17-0 and be happy. On the hurry up, it was 17-6 and im not so sure if they would have waited, that they wouldn't have reviewed the spot. I think he had the first down and it was momentum killer. There was plenty of other stupid shit, but these were two questionable ones that proved big.

This is on the Players

I don’t believe that the coaches tell the D-Ends to over run every blitz. I can’t blame coaching on a missed FG. The mistake being made on this team are being made by upper class men.

Every game we have one or two players that make horrible plays and we lose. We could reverse 10 plays this season and we are 9-2 but we make crucial mistakes consistently. I don’t blame coaching because most of them are made by veteran players. Oguebo was the worst tonight.

STAFF PICKS: Texas Tech

@BPrzybylo - Oklahoma put everything it had into the emotional tank for the Bedlam performance vs. Oklahoma State, so what’s the attitude heading into Texas Tech in Lubbock at night?

Feels like it’ll be another game where quarterback Dillon Gabriel is going to have to handle the elements and make some adjustments. That hasn’t always gone so well for the Sooners in recent weeks, but you know Gabriel is itching for another chance.

Tech is interesting because not sure how many people saw Joey McGuire being able to come in with that roster and make something happen so quickly. The Red Raiders, you could argue, have actually been more consistent than the Sooners.

Maybe their ceiling feels a little lower, but their floor has been higher because they haven’t had any real clunkers outside of Baylor.

So OU needs to try to duplicate that Baylor disaster for the Red Raiders and create some takeaways. The Sooners have been able to do that repeatedly in the last month, specifically when it comes to interceptions.

Tech has been battling musical chairs at quarterback all season because of injury, so maybe OU can take advantage of the fact there hasn’t been a lot of continuity at the spot.

Regardless of Gabriel, the smart move is to just let running back Eric Gray carry the day for one more week. Don’t let off the gas pedal and see what Gray can do in what could end up being his final game as a Sooner.

A good, competitive game to close out the year where any win is a good one because OU won’t be able to be sloppy and beat Tech.

The Sooners get the job done and get to wait a week until finding out their bowl destination.

OU 37, Texas Tech 27.

@Eddie_Rado - It's hard to imagine this is the final rodeo of the year. We wait all year long for the 12 Saturdays of the fall and then they are gone in the blink of an eye.

What a frustrating season it has been. That's why it's not a surprise when looking ahead to this weekend's trip to west Texas and not really knowing what to expect.

There's been a lot of coulda and shoulda in Brent Venables first season. A lot of, 'oh they're just not that close'. While it feels like this thing has been something of a disaster (at times!) maybe this squad will give you some kind of hope heading into the bowl season.

We've talked about it most of the week. How will this defense handle playing with a little momentum. Coming off its best performance of the season in Bedlam, can they continue to take a step in the right direction? Can they build off the last performance?

Offensively Oklahoma has to be better. We know that. Dillon Gabriel. Eric Gray. Marvin Mims. Brayden Willis. They've been up and down. Do the Sooners have a third down problem? Over the last few weeks it's apparent they do.

Even though it's just a one game. 7-5 feels leaps and bounds different than 6-6. Close a disappointing season with a win and a little momentum and the offseason will feel that much better.

@Josh_M - Alright about to walk in the gate for the Jenks-Bixby state semifinals over at Broken Arrow and while I could try and buld up to the pick itself (and pretend you all didn't skip to the bottom anyway) but let us not forget.

I said I would not be picking Oklahoma the remainder of the regular season and I'm NOT backing off of that.

Still, in my heart of hearts? I think Oklahoma wins this game, they are the better team and are facing Tech without the player that is easily it's best - Tyree Wilson.

My question remains, can the Sooners duplicate what they did last week in Bedlam on the road? Is that defense moving to a level of 'it travels'? I get that people who haven't watched each game this year would say 'this defense?' and simply be baffled by the idea that anyone could think it's a unity of some quality. But comparing where this defense was in Ft. Worth back in October to where it is now it's hard to actually quantify the growth.

This is a group that tackles better and has a few guys who are getting in the habit of making big plays - Billy Bowman has a chance to make some real preseason noise next year.

My predictions:

Oklahoma recovers a pair of fumbles, at least one from the quarterback position.
Eric Gray rushes for 170-yards or more.
Dillon Gabriel hits one 35-yard pass to each Jalil Farooq and Marvin Mims.

Realistic Changes for 2023?

LittletonSooner made a similar post yesterday with great suggestions, but with this season crashing and burning before our eyes, what would you all suggest as REALISTIC changes for 2023? Not firing BV, letting go of Lebby, getting a 5 star QB in the portal, etc…but actual feasible changes for next year?

My thoughts (again, very much piggybacking off of LittletonSooner):

1. Hire an excellent recruiter at WR coach. No disrespect to LDW, it seems like he’s done a solid job despite difficult circumstances. We need a difference maker on the trail.

2. Bring in a highly touted **outside** hire as a new DC/LB coach. There’s no reason Roof couldn’t slide over to an analyst if BV wants to stay loyal and keep Roof on this staff.

3. Find an ex P5 head coach as a special advisor to BV. I understand Matt Wells is currently filling this capacity, but we could use some extra direction and experience, especially when it comes to game/clock management.

4. Probably in the minority here, but keep identifying and recruiting these late bloomers and undervalued prospects across the country. I know everyone wants 4 & 5 star talents and that history shows you can’t compete for championships without them. Realistically, we aren’t even in the same stratosphere as championship contenders. Let’s build this foundation with tough, hard-nosed, hungry recruits who scrape and claw for everything they get. Rebuild the culture of hard work, physicality, and relentless effort…then the highly ranked recruits can follow.

5. Use the transfer portal to rebuild our line of scrimmage. There’s a decent chance we lose Wanya and Anton. I love both Jakes and Guyton’s potential, but those are big shoes to fill. The interior OL needs a talent influx, especially at G. Defensively, we need talent, size, and depth at every DL position. We struck out with Laulu and Johnson, but imagine what we would look like if Jared Verse from FSU chose us this past year?

Just my suggestions, would love to hear some additional perspective!
