Proud of the kids and coaches.

No sunshine pumper and I gripe a lot. Although this season wasn’t a success to OU standards I’m looking forward to the future of what this coaching staff will accomplish. Let’s keep this recruiting class together and get the kids in here for the schemes the coaches are trying to implement. Going to take a while to get SEC ready and we all know the changes are going to hurt.

End of Season Coaching grades

Brent Venables- F. Just bad all the way around. I still believe in him. But my confidence is waning. 6-6 is just not good enough at OU.

Ted Roof- F. Not the true DC but gives you next to nothing.

Miguel Chavis- C-. Recruiting wise he gets a higher grade but the ends weren’t good this year.

Brandon Hall - C-. Safeties weren’t awful given what he has to work with. Bowman showed true improvement (except for last night).

Joseph Valai- B. Corners were actually the best unit on the defense.

Todd Bates- C-. Arguably the best d line coach in the country when they hired him. Has to get some monsters up front.

Lebby- C+. This may seem high, but I still love some of his concepts, he absolutely has to be better, but the offense wasn’t the main issue this year.

Demarco Murray- A. Gray improved dramatically, and Barnes had just under 500 yards as a true freshman.

Bull Bedenbaugh- B+. Arguably the best unit on the team. He still has a horrible habit of playing guys who just aren’t any good.

L’Damain Washington- C+. Really tough spot for him. A lot to ask of him.

Joe Jon Finley- C. Willis improved a lot but that room isn’t what it should be.

Jay Nunez- D. Special teams were once again awful. Kickoff coverage was terrible, no punt returns for touchdowns, no kickoff returns for touchdowns, no blocked field goals or punts. Overall just bad.

Overall this staff has to be so much better (obviously) next season. Just a major disappointment. It starts with getting a big time receivers coach and getting that done ASAP. Can’t wait around for that. Also, have to do something about roof. I know it’s not his defense and it’s Venables, but Roof gives you nothing at all as @Josh_M said last night. Very disappointed in this season. Have to find a way to close this class and try and flip Bowman and hicks. If I’m a betting man? I don’t think we get either one of them.

Operation Progress is on

Ok so this season is over. Bowl game will give the staff a chance to work with younger guys more then they have had the chance to.

From now on we get to watch for progress in player development both physically and mentally.

If that doesn’t become somewhat apparent by springtime then there will be time to bitch.

For those pointing at USC VS OU, it’s a purely emotional and childish stance. Caleb Williams may be the best QB in college football. Jordan Addison was the top WR in college football. The PAC is weak. TBOW is a good coach. He left for many reasons and one of them was the lack of talent returning for this year. If he gets to play off we know what will happen. The foundation will not be there for USC.

Again, let’s watch for progress in the foundation. I’m not telling anyone not to voice your opinion but I do ask what’s the benefit of trashing the players and coaches? Zero, but there is undoubtedly a risk in doing so.

This team is the same as the past 5 years minus one thing

That is an elite QB. You have Baker or Kyler or Caleb and this is the same 11-1 regular season team we’ve had for years. Honestly most fan’s thought it would be fixed year 1. I thought it would be better but it’s clear this is the same type of defense we e had and years of piss poor coaching and development has left this program in a bad spot.Maybe BV won’t be the answer maybe he will keep the class together which has an elite QB and some other dman good players if he can close our strong maybe they get them developed and we get to the level we should be at with a legit offense and defense. What makes it worse is the fact SC prbly gets playoffs and TBOW gets another hiesman under his belt. Hopefully they get blown out.

Awful season but it’s the talent level

Were there some bad coaching decisions this season absolutely. However this team is 6-6 due to talent pure and simple. What player in OU’s secondary was more athletic than their receivers? Maybe a “healthy” Bowman but that’s it. Before tonight you can put a lot of the offensive struggles on DG and some timely drops. The main issue is they are so void of their usual talent they have to play perfectly. their margin for error is so small that these plays just get magnified. I was at many or watched the games from 96-98 and rest easy this is not like those years. Now it’s simple, close on this recruiting class! Take the gloves off and go after who you want in the portal! I kinda like the idea of an embarrassed pissed off coaching staff.
