I miss Chuck Long

OU had the most powerful offense in the nation when he was OC in '03 & '04. How he transformed Jason White is unheard of. Jason came to OU as a dual threat QB but he was mainly known for his feet and only an average passer. After suffering ACL tears in both knees, White had to depend solely on his arm. He put up monster passing numbers and won the Heisman. He hurt his arm prior to the Big 12 Championship and could hardly throw the ball in the game and in the NC game. The following season, they ran the table to the NC game. White came in 3rd for the Heisman as Adrian Peterson took a lot of his votes. Six straight turnovers and u$c hoisted the trophy in the NC game. Chuck was QB for lowa and the runner up to Bo Jackson for the Heisman in 1985.

New ‘25 Recruit Offers??

@Brandon Drumm @Parker Thune @Bryan Clinton @Jesse Crittenden
I am by no means an expert at recruiting. But it seems to me that we need to offer more defensive tackles, linebackers, offensive linemen, and a few tight ends in the 2025 recruiting class, even if they are developmental pieces.I know the Baylor kid is coming in this weekend as a linebacker and the Utah kid is coming in as an offensive lineman, but he has the two-year mission before he enrolls. I very well could’ve missed a post or article that you guys have done. Have there been any new offers or do you guys know of any new offers that will be going out soon?

What does Bob think

Anyone in the know have any idea if Bob has said anything ? I’m sure it’s bugging him to see this. Heck, has Barry said anything ?
Just wondering if they’ve made any public comments that I have missed.
I just think we come out and play well this weekend. We will have a few step up and assert themselves moving forward. Talking to a player, he said things are going well given the situation but to expect what I said. Let’s hope it’s right.

QB Situation

In my opinion, we pulled the trigger on JA a little too soon. When you look at his body of work last year as a true freshman with all the other starters in the game, he looked really promising and showed a lot of good things you want to see in your young future QB. I know he was abysmal against Tennessee, but the kid has the tools and talent to be a really good QB! The mistakes he made were between the ears and not because he's physically incapable of playing the position at a high level.

I think if Hawkins struggles early against SC, it wouldn't hurt to give JA another chance. Maybe him sitting the last couple of weeks was a positive for him mentally. Understanding he needs to take what the defense gives him and he doesn't have to try and play hero ball.

As for Hawkins, the kid has great athleticism, but (yes i know true freshman) when his first read isn't there, he takes off out of the pocket and doesn't keep his eyes downfield. I saw Bryan Clinton's post with a breakdown of a few plays from the Texas game, and Hawkins missed some wide open guys because he just isn't experienced enough to read the defense and go through his progressions (maybe Shawchuk scores if he throws it to him). As a true freshman, he relies on his legs and teams now have tape on him and won't allow him to run crazy. Yes he hasn't thrown any interceptions, but he doesn't take ANY chances and has thrown the ball downfield maybe 2-3 times in 2 starts it seems.

I know we're down receivers and the oline play hasn't been ideal, but man I just want us to have the best chance to win.

What do you guys think?

First time to Dallas. Probably my last.

First time bringing the family down to Dallas. We are extremely disappointed. This is honestly high school level sht. BV needs to take this more serious. It’s rather embarrassing. It all falls back on him. These Offensive coordinators need to get on indeed and find their local junior high that needs a coach.

Out

Strange, but true.

I know what you're thinking, but it really doesn't matter who is under center. BV and SL have created a weak ol, tons of injuries, terrible schemes and a self made QB controversy. Hawkins and Arnold go to the Portal and Thompson is out of eligibility, what then? We have to go to the Portal for a QB. Why doesn't Joe C fire everyone and hire an elite Coach and staff. That includes hiring Gundy back!

OLine development

Seems like every other program can throw freshman out there and just take the lumps with them as the develop, Sexton and Taylor have been here 3 years and struggle constantly. Filling the line with transfers every year definitely isn’t helping. Lack of depth and development from one of the best OLine coaches is worrisome. My wife’s family are Iowa fans and they recruit 3 stars that outperform this line every Saturday.

Great Article to read

Here is part of it below and it is dead on.

It’s Year 3, and Venables still doesn’t appear to have an understanding of his Oklahoma program or the situation the Sooners find themselves in. One early fourth-down decision wouldn’t have flipped what became a 34-3 loss, but field goals were never going to beat Texas.

It’s unacceptable for a program like Oklahoma to be in this position at this point in a coach’s tenure, with zero answers on offense, a leaky offensive line and a messy quarterback situation of their own making.

For the second time in three years, Venables’ Oklahoma team was blown out by the Longhorns and failed to score a touchdown. That never happened under Lincoln Riley. It never happened under Bob Stoops. It happened once to John Blake, and he was fired at the end of that season. From 1965 to 2021, Oklahoma scored three or fewer points against its Red River rivals just once. It has now happened twice under Venables.

Softball OU softball: Sooners land highly-coveted pitcher in 2026 class

Story here on OU adding Ella Kate Smith to the 2026 class: https://oklahoma.rivals.com/news/ou-softball-sooners-land-highly-coveted-pitcher-in-2026-class-1.

Just a couple other notes. I've been told EKS was the huge recruit OU has had its eye on for months now. She's wanted to be a Sooner for some time, and this weekend Patty Gasso made it happen. She got Smith to Norman this weekend and got the commitment she was looking for.

Basically, OU feels like this is a pretty big statement to make in the 2026 class. They feel like they got the player were after the most.
