Return of Marcus Major talk

Guys,

Just wanted to put this out there. I had someone call me today about Major and I have a source close to the situation who just talked to the family yesterday. Marcus isn't far enough along from shoulder surgery to come back this year from what I'm told. Was told he can't even start doing heavy rehab until February.

I know that's starting to float out there a bit and people questioning whether he can come back out of redshirt. He's just not physically ready to do that at this point.

Jase to Bama? Something seems off!

I thought Satan was going to pull his typical last minute processing trick out of his bag of recruiting tricks and drop one of the two already committed RB‘s to make room for Jase but both have already signed and neither play anything other than RB. Seems really weird that any RB would want to be part of a class that signed three RB‘s. Who knows what Satan promised Jase but you would think the kid would be smart enough pick another school. There are a lot of questions that @Josh_M will need to fill us in on when the dust settles!

Is it time to scrap the Spring Game recruiting focus?

Just doesn't seem to be working out in the long run. Sure we've gotten some commits(ahem..Jase) that have stuck but we've lost more than our fair share.

Bigger issue to me is we create all this momentum in April and then by the time the Season rolls around we have used OVs on some kids we probably needed to save, the momentum fades and then the competition swoops in and feasts.

Riley and staff seem a little naive to believe the "high" can last that long as competitive as big time recruiting is.

Seems like it's time to rethink this strategy.

TUE UPDATE 1:49pm: What we know on suspension rumors

UPDATE TUE 1:50 PM

I would just tell you guys that we can confirm through multiple, multiple sources that there will be multiple players suspended for OU's bowl game against LSU. Several sources have named anywhere from 4 to 6 players with some names coming up more than others.

The players suspended will be on both sides of the football.

Even though we've had some of the same names mentioned over and over, we are still holding back putting names out there until we can confirm things further.

Every staff member has reached out to multiple sources and every source has either chosen not to respond, or they have confirmed suspensions have been handed down to multiple players.

The reason everything has been so awkward is because tomorrow is signing day and Lincoln Riley doesn't want negative news to dominate the fanbase as they close on this recruiting class.

But obviously at this point, he has no control over that. It has dominated the last 48 hours.

But we are ready to confirm that multiple players have been suspended for OU's bowl game.

UPDATE MON 11 p.m.:

I know a lot of people have kind of caught on and paid attention to what we've said about sources close to the situation kind of ghosting us. That continues to happen into the evening.

But, we are also getting more information as the day goes on that says there is reason to believe suspension rumors.

It's not a magical update. But we keep trying to piece this puzzle together and we keep hearing from more sources close to people inside the program that are telling us these rumors of players being suspended are valid.

As for details as to why they are suspended, we aren't hearing much on that. That's the one thing that gives me pause. No one is talking about any details outside of rumors on why players have been suspended.

So why don't we just report this? We don't have one source close enough to the program that can verify who has been suspended. We do keep hearing the same names that people are throwing out there (we haven't heard Tre Brown as one of these players though). Not yet anyway.

We just don't want to put names out there just yet. But it continues to trend in the direction of multiple suspensions for the bowl game.

ORIGINAL POST:

Most of us were out doing family stuff Sunday when this started blowing up and we all made a concerted effort this morning to try and get to the bottom of these rumors. The hope with a lot of this stuff is that you just confront sources close to the situation and they either flat-out deny it or they confirm it.

Then you also wait to see if you hear nothing. Which also tells you something.

We've all reached out to different sources. So we've all got an expectation that someone would say something if this wasn't true.

We've also heard some things that lead us to believe this is something to keep an eye on.

What we know for certain is that Bridges, Stevenson and Perkins definitely dressed out for practice today.

We haven't gotten anyone to confirm any specifics. Right now it's just a bunch of "I heard that's true" or silence.

All we can do is keep checking. And we'll ask Lincoln directly on Wednesday if it is still out there as an unconfirmed rumor.

OT Fun game for everyone to play

This game is called "lets take a look at how highly rated all of OU's decommits are" for the 2020 class. Number in parentheses is the 247 rankings:

Drew Sanders: 34 (21)
Mia McClellan's son: 60 (43)
Reggie Grimes (he gone): 73 (90)
Jaylan Knighton: 146 (104)
Darion Green Warren: 154 (184)
Edgerrin Cooper: 175 (204)
Dontae Manning: 215 (76)
Major Burns: 238 (155)
Ryan Watts: 4 star (258)

I'm sure theres more but I have a case in 20 minutes.

Happy signing day everyone!!

Tuesday Notes...(UPDATE: 2:08p)

UPDATE: 2:08p - OK guys, the more I talk to people the more I think that this Jase McClellan thing isn't really coming down to the wire - it almost feels like the two are going their separate ways or something.

It's just all very odd but it's also feeling very final.

If I could forecast to Alabama, I would.

I know with that some have wondered whether Oklahoma would start to contact some running backs but I've spoken to several of the in-state stars that one might expect the Sooners to reach out to - Sevion Morrison and Isaiah Jacobs, in particular.

Both said they've had no real contact with Oklahoma in quite some time.

In my conversations with some people I don't think Oklahoma is going to be in a huge hurry to fill this likely opened scholarship spot.

"With where (Oklahoma is) with Treveyon Henderson and Camar Wheaton they aren't going to take a guy just to take a guy. Honestly, I might watch the transfer portal as well," a source said.

Alright guys, so plenty to go over this morning...and yes, I get that many of were relating to this yesterday...

*First off is all of the talk around Aledo, Texas Rivals100 running back Jase McClellan. In short? It's not great.

It just feels more and more like this is slipping away from Oklahoma. As I've said for a while the loss of McClellan stings from a perception standpoint, and there's a part of me that thinks that's why Oklahoma was fighting the battle they were.

However, when you look at the numbers and the expectation of what may return, it's a loss that Oklahoma can survive.

I know that's silver lining stuff but honestly, I'm betting on Alabama at this point, I just don't like the things I'm hearing.

You throw on top that neither Lincoln Riley nor Jay Boulware are currently following McClellan and you've got the long and short of things.

**Onto some other news, there is plenty of reason to believe that Josh Eaton, the four-star cornerback of Aldine (Texas) MacArthur won't sign - let's be real, the guy came out and said it. However, I've talked to some sources who termed it as 'smoke screens', so we'll have to see what actually plays out but I'll simply say I don't think it's a definite scenario.

***Sticking at cornerback I know everyone got wound up about the rumors surrounding Brian George yesterday when Jeffrey Lee of our Auburn site picked George to end up at Oklahoma. I spoke a bit with Lee and I think it was just a guy being careful about making a change from his initial Auburn pick once he learned it definitely wasn't going to be the Tigers.

Now what's interesting is that I can confirm that George has reached out to Oklahoma in the past few days. Still though I think it's a situation of he could be a guy that is a take next signing period if that is a possibility but I do not expect him to be newsworthy in this period - well, beyond this note.

****Finally, I know that everyone has reacted to Reggie Grimes and the rumors of him not signing tomorrow but, like Eaton, I think there are some conflicting stories. I've talked to some sources who still expect him to sign on Wednesday.

I DO NOT KNOW how it will play out but like Eaton, I'm not sure of anything.

Things that could make Riley go to the NFL

1. Uncles
2. Parents who can't instill character in a son (2.5 yrs. of commitment=no, you're not going to Bama)
3. Handlers & 7V7 coaches
4. Kissing the butts of 16,17,18 year old kids.
5. Wondering what his 100 football players are doing on their off hours.
6. Answering to a spoiled fan base (I admit it, I'm one of those)
7. Receiving commitments from kids and then having to wait to see if they change their minds before their "Look at me" edits are finished.

Monday Notes...

Alright guys, thanks for being patient with me, spent most of the day with the family after being gone yesterday and today being Layla's second birthday.

At any rate, I want to give HUGE credit to @BPrzybylo for carrying the torch.

*I don't have a ton to add to what he said - really though he did a nice job summarizing some of the situations.

One that I did want to touch on was that of Lakeland, Fla. cornerback Kendall Dennis and the reality that his Florida State visit was known with the Sooners and, from what I've gathered, apparently didn't change much of the optimism in his recruitment.

Keep an eye on him as the Sooners seem to have done a great job here on the close.

**At the cornerback position another interesting storyline is the possibility that Josh Eaton isn't going to sign on Wednesday.

I've not been able to confirm that this is how things will play out but I can say that's currently what Eaton is telling people.

This will be an interesting story to see how Oklahoma takes the news as it's long been expected he'll sign. But this late change, how will they take that news when most thought they'd be the choice?

***I'll have more tomorrow as I catch up with some more sources...

Saturday Notes...

Guys, I have talked to a few sources and am told that Aaryn Parks did not inform Oklahoma that he would be taking his official visit to Georgia this weekend.

Now what I've gathered is that a lot of people around him weren't that interested in him taking this trip and even late in the week there was some doubt of whether it would happen.

There is a lot about this that kind of adds up as a guy who didn't take any official visits finally deciding to take one rather than something truly worrisome but obviously Georgia is a recruiting monster and there has to be some level of concern here. The fact that he did not inform Oklahoma is clearly the most concerning aspect of what I've heard so far.

The thing I would also add is that while Georgia has had a lot of success recruiting offensive linemen, for those who don't remember, they've just gone through a change of offensive line coach and I would be surprised if the relationship that Parks has with Oklahoma could be so easily swept aside. But obviously we'll know more after the weekend.

I will keep digging and see what I can find for you all.
