Sunday Notes...(UPDATE: 3:24p)

UPDATE: 3:24p - I've spoken with DeAndre Butler - will have the update later tonight - and I think Oklahoma made some real progress here.

He shied away from calling anyone a leader but was clearly impressed by the whole setup at Oklahoma and seemed to really hit it off with Isaiah Thomas, his host, during the trip.

I'll have his full comments by tomorrow morning (hopefully before) but I think the Sooners are right there and as I said this morning I think the Auburn-Oklahoma thing feels like a real battle.

UPDATE: 2:46p -
I've spoken to a few people and won't pretend that I feel great about what I'm hearing on the Alfred Collins front and have switched my thoughts back to Texas.

I do still think Oklahoma has a chance here but it just sounds like Texas is back to EXTREME confidence. We'll see what plays out as we've seen this go the other way before and I know that Oklahoma's only real back on their own confidence has been the reality that he is an Austin area kid. Aside from that, something beyond his control, Collins has been giving Oklahoma all the right signals.

Again, I'm betting Texas at this point, after about a month of buying into Oklahoma's chances, but Oklahoma has plenty of reason to swing for the fences.

Alright guys, it looks like the Sooners have about wrapped up the official visit of DeAndre Butler.

I'm told that things went very, very well and that Oklahoma has a chance to close him thoug , as always, he still plans to take his two other official visits to Auburn next weekend and Oregon the week after.

Interestingly enough I'm told that this could come down to Oklahoma and Auburn.

I will try and reach him for more.

Josh - Your Thoughts on the Situation?

@Josh_M There might be enough here for a condensed, on-going discussion. There’s like a dozen somewhat related threads on here so clearly the hottest topic on people’s minds. Feel free to hijack and take it forward...

In all honesty, aren’t you a bit overwhelmed by the sheer volume of the exodus on the defensive side of the ball (through the portal)? I can’t imagine there is more upheaval at any other school, over such a short period of time.

Are you hearing any reactions with your peers at Rivals? Is there any “undercurrent” on what’s happening here from other schools? I.e negative recruiting. I’m frankly surprised more has not been made nationally of our situation. Can we assume all incoming freshman are now likely to be called on to play this year, regardless of readiness? Are you hearing any portal names from our staff that make sense for OU, as I can’t imagine we will even be able to field a two deep on defense for Spring Drills? I know the portal is a new and evolving phenomenon but are you sensing any panic among the coaching staff?

Delp

let’s go.

OT: Jessica Mendoza Mets “advisor”..

Pretty sure this woman is gonna Have some blow back for her hot take considering her position in her hard earned baseball “advisor” spot for the Mets. Cheating like that is weak and should have been called out long ago. The fact the players haven’t been punished for this is a crime.

At what point does the Ruffin inaction become toxic

The longer he sits with a full time coaching position the sooner Lincoln will be looking at a fan base that won’t offer any grace.

I cannot for the life of me understand why the guy hasn’t stepped up taken and admin position gtfo of the coaching seat.

The part about him not being at every practice is mind blowing.

BYU AD wants to join Power 5 Conference

NBC Sports reported the BYU AD wants the school to join a Power 5 conference. Would you want BYU to join the Big 12, if the conference maintains its current makeup right now? What other teams would most interests you? If BYU does join, I would like to see Colorado come back. I also would like to see Arkansas join since I live less than an hour from Fayetteville, but I know that will never happen.

Rattler's maturity helped by Hurts

Hurts on the field? Eh, debate all you want. Hurts off the field for someone like Rattler? Yea, huge benefit.

“Just his demeanor. How he handles himself with the team,” Rattler said. “How he leads the team. How he handles himself off the field with media, a bunch of different stuff. I've learned a lot of things about work ethic. His work ethic is great. Just a bunch of other things, but I can say for sure those two things stand out.”

Did anyone else root for Texas?

As every Big 12 team has dropped their bowl game to date, it not only made the conference look weak but diminished the accomplishment of OU winning the conference and beating Texas.

For the first time since Texas beat USC several years ago, I rooted for Texas to win against the PAC 12 runner up and 7 pt. favorite, Utah.

I always root for outcomes that favor OU even if it is Texas.

We can let the 2020 schedule and OU victories determine recruiting for 2021.

Recruiting to Oklahoma... It is just hard

The state of Oklahoma does a good job of producing D1 talent given our size, but it is just really hard to compete with the SEC. The Deep South produces an alarming amount of top tier talent. Unfortunately, for almost none of those do they want to come to Oklahoma. Given the bag men in the SEC and the distance of travel for most of those guys to want to come to Oklahoma, it's amazing we recruit as good as we do
