@BPrzybylo - Oklahoma put everything it had into the emotional tank for the Bedlam performance vs. Oklahoma State, so what’s the attitude heading into Texas Tech in Lubbock at night?
Feels like it’ll be another game where quarterback
Dillon Gabriel is going to have to handle the elements and make some adjustments. That hasn’t always gone so well for the Sooners in recent weeks, but you know Gabriel is itching for another chance.
Tech is interesting because not sure how many people saw
Joey McGuire being able to come in with that roster and make something happen so quickly. The Red Raiders, you could argue, have actually been more consistent than the Sooners.
Maybe their ceiling feels a little lower, but their floor has been higher because they haven’t had any real clunkers outside of Baylor.
So OU needs to try to duplicate that Baylor disaster for the Red Raiders and create some takeaways. The Sooners have been able to do that repeatedly in the last month, specifically when it comes to interceptions.
Tech has been battling musical chairs at quarterback all season because of injury, so maybe OU can take advantage of the fact there hasn’t been a lot of continuity at the spot.
Regardless of Gabriel, the smart move is to just let running back Eric Gray carry the day for one more week. Don’t let off the gas pedal and see what Gray can do in what could end up being his final game as a Sooner.
A good, competitive game to close out the year where any win is a good one because OU won’t be able to be sloppy and beat Tech.
The Sooners get the job done and get to wait a week until finding out their bowl destination.
OU 37, Texas Tech 27.
@Eddie_Rado - It's hard to imagine this is the final rodeo of the year. We wait all year long for the 12 Saturdays of the fall and then they are gone in the blink of an eye.
What a frustrating season it has been. That's why it's not a surprise when looking ahead to this weekend's trip to west Texas and not really knowing what to expect.
There's been a lot of coulda and shoulda in
Brent Venables first season. A lot of, 'oh they're just not that close'. While it feels like this thing has been something of a disaster (at times!) maybe this squad will give you some kind of hope heading into the bowl season.
We've talked about it most of the week. How will this defense handle playing with a little momentum. Coming off its best performance of the season in Bedlam, can they continue to take a step in the right direction? Can they build off the last performance?
Offensively Oklahoma has to be better. We know that. Dillon Gabriel.
Eric Gray.
Marvin Mims.
Brayden Willis. They've been up and down. Do the Sooners have a third down problem? Over the last few weeks it's apparent they do.
Even though it's just a one game. 7-5 feels leaps and bounds different than 6-6. Close a disappointing season with a win and a little momentum and the offseason will feel that much better.
Oklahoma 35
Texas Tech 27
@Josh_M - Alright about to walk in the gate for the Jenks-Bixby state semifinals over at Broken Arrow and while I could try and buld up to the pick itself (and pretend you all didn't skip to the bottom anyway) but let us not forget.
I said I would not be picking Oklahoma the remainder of the regular season and I'm NOT backing off of that.
Still, in my heart of hearts? I think Oklahoma wins this game, they are the better team and are facing Tech without the player that is easily it's best -
Tyree Wilson.
My question remains, can the Sooners duplicate what they did last week in Bedlam on the road? Is that defense moving to a level of 'it travels'? I get that people who haven't watched each game this year would say 'this defense?' and simply be baffled by the idea that anyone could think it's a unity of some quality. But comparing where this defense was in Ft. Worth back in October to where it is now it's hard to actually quantify the growth.
This is a group that tackles better and has a few guys who are getting in the habit of making big plays -
Billy Bowman has a chance to make some real preseason noise next year.
My predictions:
Oklahoma recovers a pair of fumbles, at least one from the quarterback position.
Eric Gray rushes for 170-yards or more.
Dillon Gabriel hits one 35-yard pass to each
Jalil Farooq and Marvin Mims.
Texas Tech 31
Oklahoma 27
