New football facilities on BOR agenda this week

The proposed action item includes approval of the “Football Operations Facilities” project, an addition to the university’s yearly Campus Master Plan of Capital Improvements that was announced in May at an estimated cost of $485 million.

The agenda notes an interim approval cost of $4 million at maximum to allow the university an accurate project budget in the future.

OU will also decide on an architectural firm to consult on the project. Three firms — HOK, Inc, Populous, Inc and Studio Architecture — provided proposals for the project and were evaluated by an OU interview committee that ranked each firm from highest to lowest. The university rated HOK first, Populous Inc. second and Studio Architecture last.

The agenda also states the new facility would appear adjacent to Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and would not be attached. Last summer, OU demolished the vacated Bud Wilkinson House dorms located on the northeast corner of Lindsey Street and Jenkins Avenue.

During the 2022 football season, the open space was used for extra private tailgating.

The agenda writes: “It is anticipated that the project will develop new state-of-the-art facilities for functions consistent with those required to support Oklahoma football training, practice, preparation and performance.”

OT : Golf

I am completely tired of reading, talking, thinking, about whatever we all just witnessed over the past few months. It is what is, and in Brent I trust, for now…

With that being said, I enjoy golf, a lot! And I’d like to discuss with those of you interested, or maybe even those of you who are not but can humor me with your asshole takes.

Anyone pick up new clubs? It’s Christmas season which means Black Friday, cyber Monday…

We’ve got some decent fall golf weather approaching tomorrow and next week…

Discuss!

Next year…

No reason to believe they’ll be better. They’ll lose their 3 best offensive players, 4 if you count Harrison. No Willis, mims, gray, or Anton. Clearly the freshman haven’t developed at all. Gibson and Anderson are nobodies and LV BS (funny and accurate) and Hester just take up space. Legit change we’re looking at 4 wins this year. Don’t get excited, don’t talk yourself into it, don’t watch hype videos next July. There’s absolutely nothing to care about save Patty Gasso.

Top 3 Coaches

Despite @Remennek81 best efforts I remain mostly a sunshine pumper and curious to hear better informed people than me discuss who they thought the best 3 coaches were this season based on what they were able to do under the circumstances. My immediate thought was Demarco with what he's done with Eric Gray and I know Jay Valai has gotten a ton of hate but our corners looked better than years past IMO... what do yall think?

Arnold and Bowen 5* Next Update

When deciding what prospects across the country should move from four- to five-star status,

Jackson Arnold
and
Peyton Bowen
were two of the first names off the board.

For Denton (Texas) Guyer this season, both have had game-changing impacts, whether it be Arnold filling up the stat sheet or Bowen finding a different way every week to score a touchdown on defense and special teams.

With five-star status almost certain, the question then becomes how far up each go in the rankings. Both are being considered for top 10 placement and both are in the mix to become the state's top prospect ahead of their continued deep playoff run.

Just curious about your thoughts on Matt Ruhle's philosophy on the portal and recruiting?

When he was interviewed last week, he said that there are many, many 2-3 star athletes out there who are talented, and have excellent work ethics. You simply have to put in the work to evaluate them. He also said the portal is a great stop gap for when you need instant results, but again, it boils down to evaluation in identifying players that best fit the culture of the team, and who can come in, through hard work and make immediate contributions.

Personally, I've come full circle, and am warming up to this approach. The portal can be a blessing to programs like ours at the moment. Kirby Smart takes the opposite approach and after a victory a couple of weeks back (Tenn I think) he made the comment post game that no one on his current team came from the portal, implying consistency. OU and Georgia are, however, apples and oranges at the moment.

As far as star chasing...that has bitten us in the rear so many times. Peruse the board just in the last 24 hrs, and you'll see comments on Wease, and how the triplets from that class were nothing like what we thought they'd be. Even at his best, most would agree that Theo's play has been more of a lower 4 star than the 5 star he was projected. One could argue that our most consistent WR at the moment is 3* Drake Stoops.

It wouldn't bother me at all seeing Brent identify talent regardless of stars. I look at what TCU has accomplished with talent that, quite frankly on paper we never would have sniffed. Dugan is great, but i wonder if he would have even received an offer (before I get jumped on, maybe we did offer him; im too lazy to look it up). I look at Stetson Bennet. Again, not a world beater by any stretch, but he always seems to be able to make the play when needed.

Maybe at some point we can get to where tOSU, Bama, and Georgia are as programs, and can go back to stockpiling like we did with AD's class and few others. Until then, our staff simply needs to scour the HS ranks, and the portal to find players who buy in to our philosophy, and are all about team, and program first. I'd hate to think we are putting all our eggs in one basket for a flake like Hicks who is more interested in a bidding war, when he might not ever pan out to begin with.

What happens if USC wins it all in TBOW's first year?

None of the top 3 teams assuming its Michigan, Georgia and TCU are all that scary. Seems like a weak year at the top. Hopefully, Utah hands them a loss and ends any of this talk.
