OUI 2024 Survivor Pool - Week 8

Week 7 featured only one game between unbeaten teams, and it proved to be the only game in which an undefeated team would fall. Oregon's win over Ohio State does bring some shape to our Survivor Pool, as 48 contestants had already utilized the Ducks, versus only 4 that had burned the Buckeyes. Pittsburgh (17-15 over Cal) and Penn State (33-30 over USC, at least there's that!) both managed to win by a hair. All other undefeated teams, regretfully, cruised in Week 7. On to the eliminations.

A fond farewell, and better luck next year, to:

Bucked by the Buckeyes (1) - @NellySooner
Too Late for Liberty (1) - @Pacmule7 (their game predated your pick)
Can't Take Navy In Times of Peace (1) - @Bishop1111 (Navy did not play this week)
Actually Eliminated Last Week, But I Didn't Notice (1) - @fabdad (Selected Army in both Weeks 5 & 6)
Forgot We Were Doing This (1) - @BlebGod

So, let's have some contextual scene-setting. We've gotten rid of exactly 100 contestants, so our original Pool of 214 survivors now stands at 114. Meanwhile, of the 134 FBS teams, only 11 continue to stand unblemished.

Of the 114 survivors, here's how their usage stacks up:
  • Used 3 Unbeatens (34) - In other words, at the moment, there's a 34-way tie for first.
  • Used 4 Unbeatens (65) - Plenty can happen that would vault you up with, or even past, the leaders.
  • Used 5 Unbeatens (14) - Going to need some magic.
  • Used 6 Unbeatens (1) - @Tclipper , you probably won't be winning, but for 6 of your 7 picks to still be unbeaten is a feat in and of itself.
Some usage stats on the 11 unbeaten teams amongst the 114 survivors:
  • Most widely used teams - Army (83), Penn State (74), Indiana (62)
  • Least widely used teams - Miami, FL (11), Navy (13), BYU & Liberty (20)
For those that remain, post your Week 8 selections in the thread below!

BV Guaranteed One More Season

Doesn’t it kinda seem pointless at this juncture? No way I see there being enough improvement next season to keep him long term? We will be completely overhauling our offense, more specifically our OL. I don’t see us doing much better than 7-5. Would that record give him yet another season?

Why not rip the bandaid off and rebuild with a completely new staff. Throw the bank at the Indiana HC.

Parker says the offense could be worse on the rush

Could it though? I mean what’s worse than scoring 3 points? 0 points? Lmao
Might as well give the freshman some game time on the OLine so OU doesn’t have to hit the portal for 5 more Olinemen

Here’s some disgusting statistics that make me want to throw up

I’m not a doom and gloom guy but this is quite literally a sinking ship. No player or QB will come play at OU with this offense

Just watched the live. OC search question

Just watched the Live. Good show fellas. If the belief is that BV is on the hotseat, do you think that that will deter big time coaches like Stein or Coley from coming. They clearly have a good thing going for them where they are at, why come here and take a gamble like that? I think @Parker Thune stated he didnt think Stein was as big as a long shot as everyone else. Thoughts?

Transfer Rules

What level of coaching change is required for a player to transfer from SEC school to SEC school and be able to play immediately? I keep seeing people suggest we get Cooley as OC and maybe some Georgia players would come with him, but I’m not so sure they could. I’m also curious how many of our guys will be able to leave for SEC schools with Littrell’s dismissal.

Recruiting All the latest from Austin Pay after his OU official...

I talked with Pay about his Oklahoma visit last weekend and here are some quick takeaways:

1. He loved his time at Oklahoma and absolutely loves Bill Bedenbaugh and how he envisions developing Pay on and off the field.
2. Bedenbaugh's success developing o-linemen for the NFL is going to play a huge factor when Pay looks to make a decison which could come in 2-3 weeks
3. Pay is done with visits - Oklahoma was his last - and now it's time to break down the favorites and make a decision
4. Pay said Littrell's dismissal was a little concerning but it's more about position coach
5. BYU's success this season is another helpful factor for the Cougars along with all the family connections
6. He will take his Mission (plan is to start sometime around March and then be back for spring ball in two years)

5 Star Jalen Montonati Update: KU VISIT

Not saying by any means OU leads they don't! What I can tell you is that Coach Humphrey is doing an amazing job recruiting him and our chances have increased ever so slightly. From what I know he'll be at OU vs Tenn game Saturday and its all because of the hard work Coach Humphrey has been putting in to build that relationship. Id say were in the top 5 but just out of the top 3.

UPDATE after KU visit: 10/22/2024

Kansas has moved to his top school, Bill Self said, " I'll do whatever it takes to land Jalen, " and Bill usually gets who he wants. I'd say they're a safe bet to land him as we speak.

Updated Schools to land him: ( Not in any order )
KSU
KU
Creighton
Baylor
Arky
Bama
OSU
Nebraska

No Oklahoma.

Practice Question

Parker and Brandon
I know you don’t have access to practice, but with your connections on the “inside”. is Michael Hawkins and the offense throwing the ball deep at all in practice? Is Hawkins just afraid he’s gonna make a mistake? Or is Seth holding him back so he doesn’t make a mistake? I think it’s time to cut the ball loose if he gets an interception. he gets a interception. Zero pass game is not getting it done. ( captain obvious.)
Is the offense doing anything at practice that's productive because “we” don't see it.

Zooming In: Individual Analysis of the Performance Against South Carolina

Starting with Barnes inability to find green grass. This is something that can be drilled, and improved upon and Sooner fans have not seen it improved in years. Going back to Kennedy Brooks being the only back who could find the grass needed to make the run game go.
