7-5

How would we feel if this was our 2024 record? After last night, iv’e evolved in my thinking and our unknowns on the o line and a new QB combined with our much tougher schedule is going to make next season another rebuild year. I think if we can get 2 home conference wins and steal one on the road in combination with our non con that might be what success looks like year one.

FEATURE: From 3 a.m. weights to reps on an empty practice field, Daniel Akinkunmi won’t stop

At 9 p.m. last night, Daniel Akinkunmi was taking pass-pro reps alone on an empty practice field. By 3 a.m., he was in the weight room with David Stone.

On Akinkunmi, who’s turning heads this week in Orlando — and not just for his British accent.

OU Brand Has Lost It's Impact

Crazy to think we have fallen behind Penn St. Ole Miss & Missouri! They all get New Years 6 games and we are sent to Alamo.
Just so you rose and crimson idiots dont shot from hip...think about this.
OU has the best win (Texas) versus the other 3. We beat SM (Conf Champion) handidly. Our two losses were by a combined 5 points and we dont sniff a NY6 game?
For what its worth, we are favored against all 3 teams head to head. The NCAA doesnt value OU anymore.

Either this team makes huge leaps next year or BV need to go. There are a shit ton load of great coaches out there OU can have. Jamie Chadwell at Liberty... 1st year 13-0. I knoew they play shit teams but they didnt drop 2 losses to Kansas and Okie State. Great Coaches and teams dont loss to shit team teams. Look at Georgia, Bama and Ohio State.

BV better win big in 2024!

Coach BB and the O-line

Can't say the o-line was bad considering OU put up over 500yds of offense the other day. However, the lack of depth on the o-line was exposed. There are many question marks about this OL group heading into next season, currently the talent and depth isn't where it needs to be and that's on coach BB. OU only signed 4 OL from the 21 & 22 classes, what makes those 2 classes so critical are those 2 classes would've been OU senior and junior groups heading into next year and now, there's only 2 guys that make up those 2 recruiting classes (Sexton & Taylor). The lack of numbers came back to haunt the Sooners vs Arizona. OU started 4 transfers in the bowl game? I wouldn't call that ideal.

Talking only about OL OU signed out of high school, there's been a lack of development in that area the last couple seasons. OL recruits signed from the 2018-2021 recruiting classes, so far, only 1 OL was drafted (Anton Harrison). Besides Anton Harrison and Andrew Raym, no other OL from those 18-21 classes finished their careers at OU.

I think coach BB is a great coach, but he has not put OU in a good position on the OL heading into next year. His recruiting and development of his HS recruits need to improve as well. Since coach V took over, OL recruiting isn't at the level of every other position group. You could argue OL recruiting is the weak link of OU overall recruiting. We're told coach BB is one of the best OL coaches in the country, so why can't he recruit more top 10 guys or 5 star guys? Why can't OU sign more guys like Anton Harrison and Cayden Green who were both highly ranked and were able to make impacts very early on in their careers. Texas signd a few 5 star OL recently even though for the last decade, their players had a higher chance of being drafted into the military than the NFL.

Seems like OU main pipeline for OL has as of recently has come from the transfer portal. Don't think that's sustainable and the direction OU should be going. HS recruiting and development should always be the main priority. While coach BB is a great coach, he's far from the best recruiter. I personally think he's better suited for the NFL since they don't need to recruit.

Overall, OL recruiting and development needs much improvement. Coach BB and the OL will definitely have their work cut out for them this offseason.

It's been fun

My subscription runs out in a couple of days. I originally signed up for soonerscoop and they left rivals. Don't get me wrong, Drumm and the rest have really been wonderful. The problem is, I can't afford both boards. This isn't totally GOOD BYE but, it might be close to it.

I hope that everyone have a BLESSED New Year in 2024. I have met some great ones on here and maybe some not so great. But regardless, it has truly been wonderful on this board.

Takeaways, notes from OUMBB's win over Monmouth

It was a back-and-forth game until a 17-1 run helped put Monmouth away.

Takeaways include Jalon Moore's big performance, Milos Uzan and Javian McCollum playing well together, Porter Moser's tribute to Ryan Minor and more.

DrummBeat: Transfer QB note | CB and the NFL (Sat 2:03 AM)

I continue to hear that transfer QB and all-time OKPreps passing leader, Casey Thompson, will announce his decision in the week following New Years Day.

I also continue to hear OU is the likely landing spot if things stay trending in the same direction it was as of earlier this evening.

*** We have talked about on pods/Lives and reported this for some time now, but wanted to make a note that Parker and I continue to be told things are moving a bit differently for CB Woodi Washington and his upcoming decision.

At one point, there was almost zero chance he was returning and his people told OUinsider as much. However, there seems to be some strong buzz on his possible return for the 2024 season.

I’m not gonna sit here and say definitively that will happen, because WW changed his mind a few times already. That said, we continue to hear the odds are much, much better for the return of Woodi Washington to OU in the 2024 season.

Even more so, and as of last night, the idea that he was coming back was stronger than it was when we first threw the idea that things weren’t 100% to the NFL a few weeks ago. Either way it goes, we have a story ready for him staying and for him leaving just in case.

Also, if he does return, that’s another really good returner for the Sooners’ defense — and a defense that looks like it could be really good on paper next year — if Washington does follow the same path as Billy Bowman and Danny Stutsman.

Stay tuned as we continue to dig on that and more transfer info.

*** Also, I’m in Colorado (Crested Butte) with family this week. I didn’t take but one or two days of paternity leave when baby Ava was born in October, so I am getting in some family time before Parker (he is off to UA Game in a few hours) and I hit the road for our annual winter and spring recruiting, 7v7, camps and schools tours that last through May.

I will continue to look into certain portal possibilities and recruiting stuff to keep you updated, but I’ll be around a bit less over the next week or so.

Regardless, I want to thank you all for being valued members and hope you all have a blessed and Happy New Year.
