Are the "OU to SEC" rumors based on anything real?

Is this a real possibility or just a bunch of exaggerated internet rumor based on a few comments by Boren? I don't see Texas being part of any such deal since they nixed the Pac 16 idea with the creation of the LHN. So, even if OU brought OSU with them in a package deal, can you realistically see OU severing ties with long-time rival, Texas, as A&M did?

For what it's worth, I think OU would be a perfect addition to the SEC. Just not sure what to make of the rumors.

There is a long thread on OrangeBloods about this.

Actually, I'm somewhat torn on this topic. On one hand, I would hate to lose the OU-texas rivalry if we did go to the $EC. However, I just don't see OU going to the $EC becuase of our "package deal" with OSU and I can imagine the $EC is not interested in the Pokes. On the other hand, I would get to see OU play more as they would be coming to stadiums closer to the ATL area if OU was accepted into teh $EC.

In the long run, I just don't see it happening.

Don't rule out the package deal. OU is attractive enough that the SEC just might accept OSU as a travel partner. After all, the ACC implemented a media rights clause to replace their exit fees right after Maryland left for the Big Ten. So, the ACC owns the broadcast rights of their members, even if they leave. They did this specifically to prevent future defections and all of their members agreed to it. So, if the SEC were to expand, they'd need 2 teams and would be unlikely to get either of them from the ACC.

Meanwhile, Texas could be a non-starter because the LHN wouldn't co-exist very well with the SEC network. So, if expansion were to occur, it would probably be an OU +1 situation anyway, and if taking OSU is what would be required to land OU, it could happen. After all, think of how powerful the SEC would become in the state of Texas with the combo of A&M, OU, OSU, Arkansas, and even LSU. There would be a ton of regional pull among that group of teams.

This is the first I've read about the ACC broadcast rights. If true (I'm taking you at your word) this is extraordinary and a compelling reason why the SEC would call on Oklahoma. We could still beat up on Texas OOC if this were to happen. We want Texas on our schedule.

OU isn't going anywhere unless the Big 12 folds for some strange reason. When the Big 12 inked new TV deals with Fox and ABC/ESPN, the deal also included an extension of the league's grant of rights from the remaining six years to 13 years, to match the duration of the new contracts. This means that if a school leaves the Big 12 during the term of the newly extended contract, the league will keep all of that school's broadcast revenues for the duration. The contracts last until 2025.

I would love to see OU in the SEC. If I were able to make the choice, my first option would be for OU to go to the SEC, 2nd option is to remain in an expanded B12 (and no crappy teams like Cincinnati either, it would have to be decent higher level teams), 3rd option (distant option) would be to go to the PAC.

If the B12 doesn't expand or be allowed to have a championship game, I don't see how it will stay together long term.

I feel the competition in the SEC will force us to be sharp and will expand the recruiting base even further.

As usual, their thread suck and they don't know schat.

I can offer some ideas here that I've read.
This timing is not coincidence, the big ten network is entering contract renegotiation as it ends after the 2016-17 season. Now, as many of you sports fans know, the last negotiations lead to expansion into Nebraska (who is not happy playing Indiana, Minnesota, Northwestern etc... allegedly)

Several theories out there. Not sure where to start. But Boren might have a brand new shiny offer to accompany the standing SEC offer. If you guys are interested, I can give you some ideas out there, but I warn you now, get out your tinfoil hat first.

I started the posting on the paid board. I've put all my info out over there. Yes it may be real...
Ok, well that doesn't do any of the free board posters any bit of good.

So, are you willing to talk here?

You're getting upset about nothing. You asked us to beg you to tell us everything you know. Nobody has asked yet. Want me to ask? OK. Tell us all about your rumors.

If we moved to the SEC (or elsewhere) what do we care what they do with "our" broadcast money? We wouldn't be getting it anyway. Or am I confused about your meaning?

Gotta love the poll questions on SoonerScoop. I get a good laugh out of them daily. This is one of my favorites...

It's not even rumor. It's conjecture based on tea leaves mixed with wishful thinking. At best. It's "lack of other fulfilling news to talk about during this time of the year" at worst.

No, I responded to you.
I wasn't "begging" anything. I was simply trying to spur on a discussion here.

And don't ask such an absurd question of "did I read my reply".
Yeah man, I wrote it.

Point being I came to the free board to spur on a discussion, and the response was, "I'm talking about it on the pay board".... Well, that's like saying, "hey! I'm having a really cool party that not everyone here is invited to"

Or you could join the pay board and stop whining...

Geeze medic, we gonna go at it finally?

Let me guess, don't be poor... Right??
If that's the case, why have a free board at all?

What whining? Am I bad for trying to kickstart a discussion here?
Really? You? We've never had a problem once man.

Why?

Has this been a productive outcome?
Apparently what I should do is pony up right? We only talk about gay marriage and someone's favorite color here.

Those threads are getting hundreds of replies and many thousands of hits. I see that you posted in the gay marriage thread too, so quite being so hypocritical. You and I don't have the influence to drive message board content. The majority does. If nobody was interested in your wealth of "insider" rumors, don't take it so personally. Geesh dude. Get a grip.

l want you to go back and read my first post.

It was fun spirited, ie... "get out your tinfoil hat" meaning I KNOW IT'S RUMOR.

I'm not claiming inside anything, simply just some interesting things I've read.

Not trying to be a hypocrite, I actually like the fact that the mods let the gay thread go longer than usual. I just choose to egg on a thread that is football related & less likely to spark animosity.

The response was, get a subscription. Perhaps I responded harshly, for that I apologize. But holy cow.

It's all good NW. And I too apologize. FYI - moderation is very light on this board now. Spam, threats and porn get attention via the "report" button. Just about everything else passes. I am certain this place will be much more interesting when fall practice starts.

Are we gonna go at it? I don't even know what that means. Type in all caps at each other maybe?

It seemed like you were being a dick to a couple of good posters on here. My apologies if I was wrong. I don't have any issues with you or any other poster for that matter.

That said, I'll be happy to buy you a year membership to the pay board. Serious offer. This isn't some pity gesture. If you'd like to join and don't have the spare $100, I do and I'd be more than happy to help a fellow Sooner fan.
